Muskie Fishing -> General Discussion -> Wisconsin Spotted Muskies?

Subject: Wisconsin Spotted Muskies?

I am a novice when it comes to Musky fishin but recently had a conversation with one of our senior biologists about the stocking program for Muskies here in Central Wisconsin and the topic of Spotted ski's came up. The fact that they have a program in place to introduce this fish and that it has been going on for a couple years now was very interesting to me, as I spend my time hunting eyes on these particular bodies of water. Now that they are closer to home I can dedicate more time and will have to buy more tackle and spark the economy a bit more. We should be able to seek them out in a year or two as they are now propagating fairly well. Has anyone else heard this and would there be interest if I could get him to participate in a chat some night?
Good Luck

That would be an excellent chat subject after the season is over, e-mail Steve Worrall with the details and I'm sure he can make it happen.

They have been planting spotted muskies for over 10 years in Green Bay and in the spring and fall they move into the rivers. Recently they have been reintroducing them to the Winnabago chain. Last year Jomusky, Gene Allen, Steve from Wild Rose hatchery, and I used boats and put 3,000 12inch fish in Lake Poygan (the DNR put a lot more in from shore besides). The clubs from the area have been helping pay the feed bill. Yes a chat from a biologist would be great.

I have been chasing WI spotted skis for three years now, and finally got into them this year, as a buddy and I got nine over 40" in a day and a half in June.  I could not duplicate it(unfortunately we didn't find them on that lucky weed flat again on that vast water of Green Bay), and am working hard at patterns as we speak(back over there whenever I can get there).  The natural reproduction is not that great yet, and that is what the DNR/clubs are trying to get going.  I have all of the stocking reports from the past years, and it is great to see they are making a go of it!!!  Once the natural reproduction takes over, we will really see an increase in the catchable population over there.  They are really a beautiful fish, just too bad I'm not able to get on them a little better yet.  I will though!!!!

A chat would be great, and I'd be willing to help in any way.  Feel free to email me at [email protected]
