I've been stuck in the Lake St Clair Troll for most of the summer. I'm afraid I'm going to forget how to cast for skis. I was thinking of a day trip over to Hudson. It is over 2 hours for me. Should I go there or keep heading west to Thornapple or somthing else. My brother has never caught a Musky casting and I convinced him to buy all the gear so he is crying about trolling too. Don't let the crocodile tears fool ya tho, you should see him jumping around when one of his trolling reels starts screeming.
Anyway, back to the question. Hudson worth the trip in say early September? What to use and where? Time of day crutial? Is it always very stained? I have been there only once before and visibility was about 6 inches.
Any help would be tremendous. Ya'll are welcome to some of Saint Clairs biggins. Give me a holler if you are comming and I'll help ya out.

Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | Hudson really isn't stained, it is dirty. The bottom is a very soft clay bottom and when ever there is any amount of wind it causes the lake to get stirred up. I have seen it with 3-4 feet visablity then 2 days later 2 inches.
The bite there has not been the best lately, but with these cool night ready to hit us the fish should start moving there.
Some of the best fishing is super early in the morning 3:00 am through 8 in the morning. Fish should be hanging around the creek channel and on the near by flats.
Don't over look the timber side of the lake with bucktails and twitch baits.
The water temps will probably be near 80 so use extreme caution and try not to put to much stress on these fish.

Location: Holly, MI | Thanks Mike. I hoped you would come thru. Are you still up in "Gods" country or back for school? By creek channel do you mean the north east end? Do you fish way up in the channel or the bay and surrounding flats there? Topwaters before sun-up or other stuff as well? The one time I was there in the spring there were guys trolling topwaters.
Anyone else fish it lately? |

Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | I am back to school now, had to leave Wisconsin about 2 weeks ago.
The creek channel runs through out the entire lake. The most productive spot for me has been straight out from the boat ramp towards the eastern shore (I think it is east). If you leave the boat ramp and head directly towards the opposite shore you will find the creek channel. Stay just to the outside and cast into it, or get on the inside closer to shore and cast out.
Topwaters work well in the morning but so do bucktails. I usually start right at the boat ramp and hit weed bed and point first.
Once the sun starts to beat down I usually hit the small coves with twitch baits and bucktails. Smaller twitch baits seem to work better. Cranes and shallow raiders are a good choice. Also baits with rattles help as well if the water is stirred up.
Bucktails with orange blades, or any bright color seem to produce the best.
