I have an older right-hand Pete Maina signature series bass pro sho reel (gold one) that stopped loading the line properly. The level wind would stop all the way to the left side (as you're looking at the reel while retrieving). I ordered a new level wind and pawl and stuck in in the reel but the level wind continues to stop in the same place. Does anyone have any thought about what I can do to resolve this issue. I love that reel and would prefer to get it back in service with something as seemly minor as a level wind issue.

Thank in advance for your advice.

Hi Dave

The worm gear/pawl should have done the trick. About the only thing I can think of is the inside of the pawl cap might be all gunked up with grease and dirt. I've had a few act up on me that just needed a good cleaning. Not sure about your particular reel, but some have a very small gasket inside the cap that goes underneath the butt-end of the pawl. Do you think you may have misplaced that when you changed out the worm gear?

If those reels are what I think, re-branded Pflueger Trion 66s, take the handle side off and re-seat the small white piece of Teflon which holds the end of the levelwind's worm gear shaft in place. In my old reels, that Teflon piece became loose, and I needed to keep it in place by putting a fat piece of rubber over it and using the crank-side cap to clamp it in place.
