Hey, I'll be fishing the Paint this coming Tuesday....the river. Any tips? Have you been there recently? Have you been moving them on anything in particular?
We will be out at my folks in Aurora on Monday night. Maybe we could get together for a couple beers?

Hi Brian - I've been to the Paint River Pond twice this season, and as usual the fishing was tough for me. Two follows. I boated a couple fish last year, but it was tough then, too, for a supposedly good musky fishery. Here's what I know about Paint based on some experience and stuff I've heard-

*lots of potential for both numbers and size
*great forage base, tons of suckers, lots of little pike
*lots of walleyes; in fact the walleye guys were limiting out first few days of the season, which is when I was there. these guys were fishing way up at the top of the pond, and in the river below Horserace Rapids
*there's a great family of river otters that live there, you'll only see them in the weeee early hours of the morning, like between 4:30 and 6:00am
*I've heard dragging a sucker is a great way to go
*I think that the 10" jointed believer in gold is a great bait for the water
* All my fish came on bucktails.
* The stump field just below the upper landing holds lots of fish. You'll see why when you drift over it - watch your depthfinder.

Not sure about Monday yet, as I'll already be gone most of the weekend, but I apperciate the offer for sure. Got a cell# or something?

Wait a minute - I just reread your post. You'll be on the river and not the pond? Ohhhhhh....

Um, I've never fished it.

I can get your number out of the phone book. Can I give you a call Monday evening if I get a chance?
