I'm visiting my sister in Vilas this weekend followed by a night of family camping and fishing. Big lake campground is closest to where I want to be and I see there are some lake sites available for reservation. Has anyone camped here or swam off the sites here as can be done in certain campgrounds?

I camped there for the northern opener this year. I had a lakeside site and on certain ones you can get a boat up to the shoreline. As far as swimming, shallow and weedy is what you'll have at the campground. Fun lake though, lots of different kinds of structure to keep a person busy fr a couple of days.

I've camped there several times, tho I don't stay on the lakeside sites. Great campground that isn't too busy. There is a shallow boat launch and a little swimming beach. The shoreline along the campground is shallow and sandy, I've beached my boat overnight there. Great lake to fish as well.

I have camped there, its nice but no electric or onsite water... I stay at Camp Holiday on J between Big Lake and Boulder. One of the nicest campgrounds I have ever stayed at in my life. The only thing it is missing is a swimming pool and nice ramp .They have a website and camping might run $25 instead of $10/$15 for a primitive spot on Big Lake. Two super shower houses, laundry and camp store.
