Posts: 76 Location: Bartlett IL | Thanks Chad for posting the pictures. Too bad the purple Tiger Wrap does not show up well in photos. There is no reason to buy a blank & have it shipped to me. I have several suppliers and between them they carry just about any blank you could ask for. I've worked with Josh & Lonnie from Thorne Bros. & they sell me rod building supplies including their Predator blanks. And my pricing is competitive with Thorne’s.

Posts: 369 Location: Omaha NE | Another vote for Frank's Custom Rods, he does an excellent job. You get exactly what you want. He built a 9' Heavy Predator rod for me last summer and I really like how it performs. It works excellent for throwing topwaters, regular bulldawgs, and bucktails up to double tens. Posts: 462 Location: Antioch, IL | Here a few photos of Frank's rods he built for me. Can't say enough good things about Frank and his work. These are some of the best investments I have made in fishing gear. Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]()

Location: Contrarian Island | I have a custom 9' St Croix on the big dawg blank I think....(blue) It is a great rod for mags and pounders...I didn't use it much the 1st year I had it but found I was using it more and more this past season...It chucks pounders with ease... I had a TE 400 w power handle on it but after 3 trips to Shimano for the power handle stripping out I put a Revo 60 5.4 to 1 on it and it does a great job...If I were to have a new custom rod built I would go with Frank tho after a few friends recommended his rods...

Question regardng the Calstar....Aside from pounders, is it also a great rod for throwing magnum size plastics in the 8oz range? Thanks.

Posts: 2089 | The Calstar will throw Mags and similar sized plastics like a dream. Again, perhaps a bit physically heavier than some other options , but with the versatility , one couldn't go wrong.
