warrior boats have huge side lockers and shelves, and if you like tillers there is a large front deck too bad the console boats are heavily swayed to trolling. a 203dc is my dream boat 12' side lockers and shelves with a 8'6" center locker for my bass and walleye rods.

I modified my 05 620 rod locker by cutting the tube ends off, put a chunk of carpet glued to the bow inside (to prevent and eye damage should they slide forward) Verdict: Works great! I can get 2 9 footers in the top left & top right easiest, my 8'9'' (8'6" but were extended) rods fit in the next 2 in and the middle 2 holders I get the 8'6" rods in. U do have to slightly bend the rod slightly to get them in to clear the fiberglass housing (heavier action dont flex as easily so watch the eye guides) and I use a thicker rod sock (cabelas, think of a heavy wool sock fabric) to assist in easy sliding in/out while being protected. I think its well worth it to be able to store 6 rods that previously would not fit, costs nothing just an hour or 2. I sanded down the edges where I cut with box cutter for smooth edges so that they would not snag my rod covers. Should work. I am still going to add the "mike winther holder" for when I want them out of they way and not tangling with eachother (on plane, rough water) without having to put them away. I am considering cutting the ends of some of the lower tubes to make the 7'6" tubes accommodate 8 footers but access is much tougher since the other tubes are on top of them making access available from the side only. So collapsible rods which I have 2 of seem more appealing, especially trolling versions to keep in the boat for when its time to fire up the kicker. Thanks for the info.

On that note, has anyone "perfected" storing longer rods outside ofv the rod locker with any special mounts or ideas they would like to share. I remember Mike Winther had a."ram mount?" Mounted in front of the counsle (tuffy x190 that I saw up.at spring bay/The V in 07) on the ram mount was a sectioned rod holder that held a few rods out of the way with the rod tips pointing towards the back, angled just off the counsle. It appeared that even a rough water ride would keep the rods from bouncing around, getting tangled in each other. I like that idea for rods kept out, but secure.

I have a Modog's Running Rod Rack in my boat, and it solves a lot of hassle on the water from spot to spot, but it's certainly not the answer for storage/trailering. It obviously depends on your style of fishing, I like this set up because it doubles as a rear casting deck, and is nice to lean against while setting trolling spreads in rough water.

Otherwise, you can easily keep 2-3 longer rods strapped down on the port side, same with the front casting deck.

I ended up recutting all tubes with a oscillating cutting tool (it fit in the cramped space and was able to change angle of blade to cut ALL 12 tubes, make sure all wiring is out of the way) as I could not access the lower 6 tubes as the top 6 were over them. I got cleaner cuts than previous methos (box cutter) and hand sanded the edges so rods, lines, rod cover would not be catching or receive a nick. So where the 6 7'6" tubes were I can fit rods just over 8' long & where the 8' tubes are I can fit rods up to 9' (some slots are more accommodating as the hull tapers to a "V") I plan on keeping rod covers on all for extra protection and prevent and possible tangling. This took a a few hours overall but can easily store all my rods up to 9' (05 620)
