I thought I'd try starting a thread for links for purchasing materials and supplies. I know sites like Stamina, Rollie and Helens, etc. are fairly well known, but I'm sure there are several others (both in and out of the traditional fishing supply world) that could be beneficial to both beginner and more experienced basement lure builders. So if you have a great resource for bucktail wire and don't mind sharing, or a nifty resource for lure eyes, or whatever, I know I'd appreciate it. And I imagine many others would, too.

Location: Moline,IL | I'm having some problems finding heavy gauge bucktail wire. The best I could find was 8" shafts that are .051 from stamina. I'd prefer longer shafts and heavier wire(.062). Any ideas? |

| My "neighborhood shop" is Reinke Brothers in Milwaukee. If you are a lure-maker and you are going to The Milwaukee Show, do yourself a favor and stop at Reinke's. A very small shop, but they manage to put 10 gallons of stuff in a 5 gallon bucket. Where else can you sit on the floor and sort through bucktails to find the ones with the longest hair?

Location: W. PA. | Go to any welding supply and tell them you want 1/16" stainless tig wire. The 1/16" is 0.062", grade 308L and comes in 3' pieces, I got 36 pieces in a pound for $14, that's 108 feet for 13 cents a foot. |

The nifty thing about this stuff is that you can pull it and stretch it to get some variation in pattern size, if you want. Plus it's flexible and moldable. I'll post some results from it soon, I hope. |

Location: Nordeast Minneapolis | If you're in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, Ax-man Surplus has a bunch of eyes... some looked like taxidermy eyes, some are obviously for teddy bears and dolls, etc. I was in the Fridley store yesterday and they had a few... I know the St. Paul branch tends to have more. Might not be exactly the product you're looking for, but if you can make it work it WILL be cheap! |

Location: Hugo, MN | Ax-Man rules. I actually picked up a few eyes from the St. Paul store a few months ago, but there weren't any taxidermy eyes left. I also checked the one in the Brooklyn Park area, but no luck. There is however a TON of random junk that a guy like myself can use out in the garage. You never know what you'll find there. I picked up a bunch of shrink tubing for about a two bucks, and a gear reduction motor for my lure turner for about five bucks. Hard to beat. |

| Where do you guys get that envirotech clear coat? Also is it a 2 part deal I have never used it. Would you suggest using some kind of 2 part epoxy? Which is easier to use? I do have a machine I just built to rotate the lures as they dry just need to figure what clear coat to get.

I just picked up some of this wire and found it is not nearly as heavy as .062 stainless "lure making" wire. It bends easier and seems more prone to the shaft bending under pressure than the regular lure making wire.
Stamina is no longer carrying the pre straightened .062, has anyone else found a source for straight wire shafts 10" or longer? |
