anyone else think that fish is not nearly as big as Bob claims?

| I find this disscussion very interesting. One most of the Trophy Hunters are probably young very expierenced guns. Second, size of a fish is all relative to the body of water you're on. Who you're with and when you're there. I love this sport and all of its aspects. But the one thing I love the most is its people. Guys like "muskllunged" who I have met a couple of times reminds me of myself fifteen or twenty years ago. I doubt if Mike remembers me at all. But I can tell you just in talking with him a couple of times his passion for this sport is real and genuine. I like that.
On the other side of the spectrum are guys like Steve Sworall. A little longer in the tooth and grayer around the edges(older if you will) sorry Steve. But still as formitable as they come when in pursuit of this great fish. His view is on this subject is one of "Been there and done that". I respect and admire his view greatly. You can't substitute time on the water. And if I maybe so bold as to say I think that is part of where Steve and others like him are coming from.
For myself, I say this more and more its becoming less about the fish and more about the adventure. The getting up at 4:oo am and packing up for a trip, the hours of planning, packing, and preparing. The time on the water with myself, family and friends. Catching a fish or watching someone in my boat catching a fish is a colmination of all those things and whether its a 53" fish or a 35" fish as the years go bye I don't seem to really remember the size. Just that we stuck something together and enjoyed it for what it was. A really good time.
Sorry for sounding like a puss. I really don't care as much about the size of the fish. But like I said everyone has a different take on this subject. I think that is great.

ps. I think the fish between 39" and 44" are the craziest fighters. While writing this I've look at my notes on some of those catches and man some of the nuttiest things go on when I've hooked fish between that size range. One fish from 05" was a 42" fish my comment was " This fish fought like it was a hooked 20lbs bird. It finally landed in some tree over hanging shore." Caught on the Flambeau river July 23 2005. |

Location: Contrarian Island | sometimes I think the more experienced and better we get at catching big fish we forget about the days we about pee'd our pants a 35"er came screaming in...this past weekend I had a couple guys in the boat who have caught some big ones..but maybe not a ton of fish..they would get a follow from say a 45"er and about have a heart attack...it reminded me that even though I was there to catch much bigger fish that it should always be exciting to see a musky...
the other night fishing solo I had an action packed night with some fish that I honestly would shake off in MN...well they were fun to put in the net by myself...at times we all need to take a step back and realize how fun this sport is..not just catching 50s..but even smaller fish should be a blast to catch ..or lose... ; ( |
