I am about with jim3 on the ratio. Tow vehicle is only used for the boat or moving people on the weekends.

I don't catch very many fish so I have a brand new boat and a brand new truck pulling it. As Billy Crystal used to say (when imitating Fernando Lamas) "It is not important that you BE MARVELOUS, it is important that you LOOK MARVELOUS!" If you do this, folks that don't know that much will say, "Boy, that guy must be a pretty good stick!" Folks who know a lot won't have too much good to say, but at least in a new truck with the window seals all pretty good...you never hear it anyway!

$12,000 truck and 14,000 boat. Both reliable and both paid off in march. You couldn't pay me to have the payments some guys have. Hilarious about the billy crystal quote but sad that so many people live like that. Like they say perception is reality.

If someone would pay me to have payments they would run out of money!

'06 F150: $15K '87 Bassboat: $3K? At least the boat is paid for and with my modifications to the decks and storage it is tough to find a boat that functions as well for the money. A paint job to cover the faded areas with no gel coat left and I'd fish that boat for another 10 years. It's an old boat but the only one I own so to me it is priceless.

Since I don't even have a vehicle that can tow, as I only move my boat once in the spring to dump it in the water for the season and then once in the fall to pull it out (which I get a friends help for), I think that'd make my ratio Infinity. Am I doing it right?

Now that's a sweet deal!! Avoid the tow vehicle altogether

1968 Starcraft V180= $1500
1990 Chevy K1500 = $1500

LOL!!!! 1:1 with a whopping total of $3k in my entire rig.

For a working rig that catches fish nearly every time out.... you can't beat it.

2:1 or 1:2. Depends on if you go by what my wife thinks I paid for them or what I actually paid.

Well if we're going to list our super sweet boat mods:

14' Lund
Motor: 1985 15hp Mercury Tiller with broken pull start handle (therefore, Custom zip tie loop pull start handle)
Hull: Aluminum, freshly painted with Rustoleum Gold ($2.99/can, was on sale)
Trolling Motor: Wooden ore
Bilge Pump: Blue Bunny ice cream pail capable of holding 1 liter of water per scoop and throw
Flooring: Pressure treated 6-ply inserts (I splurged, could've saved by getting 4-ply)
Fish/Hotspot Finder: $20 binoculars from walmart
Front/Rear anchors: quick-mix cement dried in 1gal buckets
Storage compartments: what are those?

I, too, think I have more money into the boat than the truck. Sh*ts custom!

Interesting topic. I've always told my buddies if you gave me $50k I would spend about $35K on the boat and $15k on the vehicle. Right now for me its 2:1 (boat:truck).

Mine are about a one to one ratio depending on the price of scrap aluminum versus scrap metal prices.

Same for me, but then I suppose I'd have to consider the dock, boat lift, land, and cabin where it's parked...
