My buddy bought an Umbrella rig that the saltwater guys use. We tried it out last year on SC. It looked sweet with 5 bucktails hooked up to it. Didn't catch anything on it but then again we didn't fish it that long due to the fish hitting Lokes that day.

For sure. Saw that rig years ago used for stripers and the first vthing that came to mind was m u s k i e s......... not legal for skies in illinois. likely the same in mn, wi, mi. |

Location: Stevens Point, WI | The A-Rig is the hottest thing going in the bass world that's come in a very long time. Finding one is nearly impossible and if you do, you'll certainly be paying three times the retail price for a bass version. Pretty crazy how deadly they are on suspended fish. |

The legality in most states will depend on how many hooks are on the rig. In Michigan you are allowed up to 6 hooks (trebles count as 1 hook) on a line.
I thought the rig looked cool in the water when we used it but it would be a mess if a musky hit that thing.

I ran it with rubber storm shads, cut the single hook off most, added a treble to the trailing one....
it took me 3 trips to get it to run right/work and I have not run it since. It was tricky to get it weighted correctly and stay balanced. That was 6 years ago. I used saltwater umbrella rigs. |

LOL! but what gear ratio would you want on the rear end of the truck? High gear for burning or low gear for easy of retrieve on your truck? Stick shift or automatic? 2WD or 4X4? Oh just think of the threads and debates we could have about this?  |

Location: Eastern Ontario | In Ontario you are only allowed 4 hooks. At the Fishing Show yesterday saw some 4 arm versions. How bout a 4 arm with 4 Water Wolf Shadzillas with the treble removed for fall trolling on the Larry. I always fish the shadzilla the way they origionally came without the treble. |

Location: Chisholm, MN | In MN you could put 5 baits on one and have hooks on just one of the baits. That one bait would need to stand out with a different color or be set back farther. I think it would work nicely if you have something to throw it with. Otherwise just troll it. |

| It's legal on some waters in Illinois. You can throw the A-Rigs on any lake without the 2 lure per line regulation (Shelbyville and Kinkaid for example). It might be worth talking to a CO to get his interpretation of whether using "dummy" baits along with two hooked baits is acceptable. |

It had a sign above them saying use at your own risk the DNR has not ruled if these are legal to use or not. Personally I don't want to ever walk a line where you can be in trouble with a CO so none of these will be bought by me. |

| I made my own alabama rigs. I bought utility marker flags a farm store. I put tow wires together, bent them in half so the ends met, then put them if a vice with the loops sticking out. Then i stuck a screw driver through it and twisted serveral time to form the eye and bring the wire together. At the end of each arm I bent the wire back a few inches, put on BIG snap swivels I bought from Lureparts.com, and then looped the wire around itself two times. The wire is stiff so it takes some hefty pliar. Time the wire that's left over back down. You're done. I used plumber's epoxy, the play dough type stuff that you knead together, formed the shape of a fish head with it and put it on the wrapped wire just below the eye. It provied a little extra weight. Painted that chautruse , made a black eye on each side and I am read to fish. Screw 25.00, U dont have two bucks in this rig. Wire flags .14 each, BIG snaps .15 each, epoxy about 3.00 and enough to do several rigs. |

| The "umbrella rig" is legal in every state and in Canada. The only stipulations is that some states allow only on of the lures with a hook, or two, or three or five. So all you have to do in some states is rig some of the lures with dummy lures.....they are there but they don't have a hook on them. You always want the trailer lure to have a hook on it regardless of how many lures you throw (3-arm, or 5-arm). Meat and Potatoes Tackle Co has a musky version in 3-arm or 5-arm. |

| You can use it as an attractor in front of anybait (crank, bucktail, etc).
I never used it but plan to get one before next season

| NEver used one but I don't think the foul hooking will actually be much of a problem. When the fis his hooked on one of the baits the resistance of the fish pulls that bait to the rear and the other baits will be in front of the fish. |

But if you don't care about the fishes health then knock yourself out...
I think this assumption is a bit over the top... Then I guess it's probably not very responsible for us to fish with a lure (crankbait, bucktail, etc..) that has multiple treble hooks on it either. |
