Posts: 170 | This year I would like to hire a guide for the bay. Admittedly I don't get up to the cabin up north as often as I would like during spring/early summer and don't live too far from GB. I would love to learn the "water" and from there, basically pick it apart. Realizing it's a big haystack, I would like to at least eliminate water that just doesn't make sense to pursue, and also learn where "not" to go...as in hazards., etc. Not at all interested in trolling the river, etc...more traditional casting, etc. (PS - absolute c&r) Thanx, Jim

Location: The Yahara Chain | Captain Dennis Radloff would be your man. Dennis casts a lot in the Bay proper. I hired him for a day in July and we covered a LOT of ground, casting all day long. http://www.sterlingmusky.com/ Edited by Bytor 1/20/2009 7:27 PM

Posts: 2865 Location: Brookfield, WI | Dennis Radloff. Fun with which to fish. I might have learned something when I was out with him, too, though I'm usually talking and not really paying attention to what's going on around me. We covered a ton of water and he explained things as we went. It was a year and half ago, and even I can remember some of the spots well, and how we fished them. Dennis and the guy I fished with casted the whole time. I'll admit to sitting down for some of the day. If I got something out of it, he has to be good. And we went really, really, fast in his big Princecraft. Wheeeeeeee!. Kevin Go MAC. I'm pulling for you.

Posts: 355 Location: Wausau, Wisconsin | Dennis is great, I'd give a nod for Brett Jolly too. I've caught a lot of fish with him. We laugh all the time in the boat and there is never a dull moment.

Posts: 80 Location: Clintonville, Wi | thanks travis, but I don't guide on the bay and never will I just usually stick to guiding on Shawano. I still try to keep the Bay between me and my buddies plus I don't care to get a captains license. There are plenty of good guides out there like Dennis, Brett Jolly, Mike Herman to name a few. You can email me with questions if you are looking at something specific I might be able to help you out or how to get ahold of one of these guys. Thanks

Posts: 1460 Location: Kronenwetter, WI | Fished with Brett Jolly this fall and he did a great job....got one fish in a half day and a pal's crew got 5 in a full day. He does a good job teaching about the system, the baitfish, their seasonal patterns, and what to look for on electronics. Actually, I tried to book Radloff, but hje was booked but was very pleased with Brett. Great guy taboot! Edited by Cowboyhannah 1/20/2009 9:51 PM

Posts: 1906 Location: Oconto Falls, WI | Sorry Jeremy thought you were guiding out there in addition to your other lakes. It's a shame your not on the Bay as I know you know it well. In that case I agree with Dennis R. Edited by CiscoKid 1/21/2009 7:05 AM

Posts: 720 | As far as I'm concerned there are only two names that I can recommend. Captain Brett Jolly and Captain Dennis Radloff. Both are increditble human beings with a great knack of putting you on fish. Fish or not you would be a better person just spending sometime with both gentleman.

Posts: 170 | Thanks for the feedback guy's...I figured Dennis' name would be spoken the loudest. Seems to be a good direction to go. I may also have some other input coming to go after...I'm not at the point right now to select the exact date(s) as I have some things pending, and as mentioned dates will likely fill quickly. I'm jonesing for open water, so hopefully the MKE show will help that out. Can't wait to hook up with a few buds coming in town.

Dennis is about as nice and accomadating as they come...he puts in as time on the water up there as anyone...Go with him for sure..if you can get him!

Posts: 999 | How bout Dennis Radloff's right hand man Lynn Nichlash? They work hand and hand so I opt to pic Lynn as he works just as hard as Dennis. There will be more guides with captain's license's in the very near future as there is only a handful that guide on the bay for musky's and that's alot of water to cover. Mr Musky

Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | You can't go wrong with Lynn, Dennis or Brett. All three of them put lots of hours on the bay. Time on the water keeps you tuned into the best bite. I would call all three and talk with them to see who you like most. Being in a boat all day long with someone can be fun or quiet. Getting to talk with your guide will give you some insite as to what your in for. From what I hear all three are class acts.

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | If you are looking into a summer trip, definately look into hiring one of the guides who is out there on a regular basis. If you are having trouble finding a guide in the fall, when most are booked, give Jeremy, Shane Mason, Jomusky, Bill Schultz or myself a PM here, and you should be able to hook up with some info. There is usually someone from the 'group' out there each day, from Oct 15th to ice-up. Bring some sandwiches, cd's of choice(no new country), a couple Monster Loca Mocha's and a bag of Red Man, and most will allow you aboard.... unless you go with Jeremy, who will require you to bring a 'Kool and the Gang' cd along...... Posts: 10 | I agree with Mike. If they're all good at putting folks on fish, then the personality thing makes a big difference. A day with a guide is a lot better if you "click"

Posts: 170 | Reeefhawg...I appreciate those comments...maybe I'll do that. The only problem is that come fall, I'm usually sitting in a tree!! LOL.. Although that October lull has been true to form for me the past few falls, so maybe I'll be doing more October fishing this fall??? While I have a great circle of friends, not many (if any to tell you the truth) are into chasing muskies) Thanx again everyone...

Posts: 66 | WOW...you guys are too kind...thanks for the kudos! I can't say enough good things about Brett Jolly, Lynn Niklasch, and Mike Herman....I have known Lynn for a long time and he's a hard working guide...I have been getting to Mike over the past few years and he's also a hard working guide and very down to earth...and I have only known Brett as of this fall and had the honor of getting it handed to me more than once by him out there...he's another great guy out there with a relentless work ethic....all three great guys...all three hard working...and all three...very fun to be in boat with. In addition...there are quite a few great locals who know that system better than all of us (myself included)...if you can find these guys they are usually willing to have a guest in the boat for the day if you can hang with loud music and the celebratory beverage of choice after each fish....and the way some of those guys catch fish....you will be partaking in alot of celebratory beveraging...:-). There's a great group of guys out there, with a great level of mutual respect....I'm sure one way or another you'll find a way to get some quality time on the system. May everyone catch the fish of a lifetime this season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best to all ya, Dennis

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | Nobody told me that my down rods not working was because of the tunes. What to do? If I don't hair metal it to some degree, Shane sleeps on the floor of my boat just like clockwork from 10 till 2, with only a clicker to rouse him. I've taken note of the professionalism/politeness Dennis and the other cpt.'s mentioned, have shown to the other boaters out there. They're always 'one of the guys' at the landing after a long day too. Edited by Reef Hawg 1/26/2009 12:18 PM

I would recommend Dennis Radloff as well. A great guide, a great guy. I have learned a lot from him over the years of hiring him.

Location: SE Wisconsin | Cpt. Doug Kloet, the owner of Musky Magic Tackle hands down. Otherwise I know Dennis Radloff, as many have already said, is an excellent candidate for that body of water. I haven't had the pleasure of fishing with Dennis yet, although I've spoken to him at a couple of boat launches. I have, however, spent some time cruising around for late summer ski's on Pewaukee with Cpt. Kloet, and he's a hoot to fish with! Great guy all around with an equal sense of humor. He's been around the block or two when it comes to time on the water, and he'll not only put you on fish, but teach you why their there and why he's having you use the tactics you're using. You'll leave him that day in great spirits and his card so you can call him again. Edited by Sam Ubl 2/3/2009 3:54 PM

Dennis has the ability to put you on the biggest fish in the system if you give him total control of your outing. That means if he wants to troll, let him. Lets face it, if you're going to the Great Lakes to fish Musky, you should be going for a big one, not numbers. Jody Mills www.millsmuskyguideservice.ca Georgian Bay, Canada

Not a guide recomendation, but a question. Do any of you Green Bay and Fox River fisherman know the impact that the upcoming dredging will have on the fishery? Can't seem to come up with any information? Thanks

Posts: 45 Location: North-Central WI | I don't know Dennis, but I'm sure that will change in the future. I would highly recommend giving my good friend Captain Brett Jolly a phone call - we have fished together for years and now having moved to Green Bay he is tearing up the muskies there; aside from being a heck of a fisherman, he's a heck of a good guy too! He can be reached at 715-581-5678 Tight lines, Joel
