| So far this summer, the husky sized Hog Wobbler, the Funky Chicken Spinnerbait, and the Undertaker have been showing the majority of my action in equal portions. |
| |
| The old standard.... bucktail... black hair and orange blade on Bald Eagle Lake.... brown hair and silver blade on White Bear Lake.... |
| |
| None!! Unfortunately I have been fishing new waters this year, and have been a little slow in developing a solid pattern. |

| I have to give the nod to Drifter Tackle's Muskie Stalker. It has taken a number of big fish up to 45" for me so far this year, and has been the most consistent producer from any of my boxes. The jointed bait is the better for trolling. Surprisingly, it might only be 6" long, but the big fish seem to like it. It is super hard plastic like a Cisco Kid. I have one bait that has taken 7 or 8 good fish, and a couple of smaller ones. It's got a number of nicks and scratches, but is otherwise in tremendous shape. Most comparable wood baits of the Terminator / Wiley persuasion would be junk by now... and most certainly would not be capable of maintaining speeds of 6 mph or above and holding their original action.
How do you make them better? Pull the factory hooks and split rings. Replace the #6 s/s rings with size #7's. Replace the 4/0 bronze factory hooks with saltwater 4/0's. These babies really hold an edge for a long time, and they don't rust!
These baits will be getting more running time from me this season without question. I am pretty sure that my fish tally on these baits has only just begun for 2001 and beyond!

| Bull Dawg...any size, any color. Not as many hook-ups as I might have liked, but too much action to not have me bringing a whole "Dawg Pound" with me each time I go out. Followed closely by "Crunch-N-Munch" the old reliable Jackpot...only dinkers, but once again the action is too cool to put him away.

| If you promise not to tell anyone, a black marv's spinnerbait with gold blades gotten me a 39 incher and a 45 thick fat incher and last year it got me two 48 inchers probally over 30 lbs (one forsure), next would be a blue and silver bill normans (kentucky baits but work north) both sizes a skinny 45 incher, 34 incher and 33 incher this year, and finally a reed runner spinnerbait with a cooper blades but you have to order the larger blade from Northland (indiana blade no. 8), I know when musky fisherman look at this bait they will think too small, which is fine with me and the guys I got turned on to this bait they didn't believe it either until they got in the boat with me. |

| I've got a 3 horse race so far- all competeing hard for the win! Currently it goes:
#1- Manta
#2- "Super" Shallow Invader (Super being and an extra long tail in place of OEM tail)
#3- Squirrelly Burt
But I have to post them all because I am sure they are going to change lead (predicted finish: #1 SSI #2 SB #3 M) |

| This is easy, most of the 20+ fish in my boat so far this year have come on spinnerbaits of different colors. I thing orange blades with brown hair is tops but caught many with firetiger,white,black/silver. Naturaly the shallow water weedy flats don't allow me to fish any other lures. My 3 biggest 45.5/47/51.5 have come on black and silver also had a client boat a 45 incher on a brown and orange 10 minutes into his first muskie trip and he was second in line but his buddy lost his halfway to the boat.

| Bulldawg, 9" |

| This is an easy one! By far my most productive bait has been a homemade crankbait. It's a cross between a Jake and a Slammer, yet jointed at the same time. The colour is brown perch![] |
| |
| TR Twitcher has shown most fish and finally one in the net on this bait this weekend (36.5") as well as a 42" on a gold/purple spinnner (I know, Vikings colors...LOL...did I just start something???LOL2X)
Alright Jason....what's been hot for you???? |
| |
| My best bait so far this year has been the good old Black Hawg Wobbler. Nothing is more exciting than watching a muskie hit a topwater, no matter what size fish. Have teeth marks to prove it! |
| |
| My favorite bait so far this year has been the Musky Stalker by drifter tackle. Its a great early season lure that my partner caught a 53" on opening day. Since then I have been trolling the hell out of mine....
Tugs and fishes,

| Best bait this year is the same as last year. Home made bucktail. Tri-color,or quad color..chart/orange/red/black...from tail to tip with a gold french blade. My buddy calls it "the Halloween Bait", but caught his first legal on it last Sunday eve. I always have one on one of my rods. Beaver |

| Well Jim-Lang, you asked for it, after you read this you will understand why I put the post up to begin with.
I dont have any certain super hot bait this season. With the crazy weather patterns we have been having in SE Wisconsin. April was warmer then May and May felt like March(only seen the sun 5 days that month) and then June felt like July with temps in the 90's. Now July is cooling down with high temps in the 60's by latter this week. I have had to change things up quite often to get them toothy critters to bite.
But I have done well with:
Slammers
Bagleys
Ernies
Squirrly burts
Undertakers
Husky Jerks
Sugartails
Boo-tails
Funky Chickens
ChickaD's
Thunderheads
Top Kicks
Musky busters
I have done well with all these baits this year so far, moved and caught some fish. But I cant for certain nail a hot bait down at all. The minute I start getting two or three fish on a bait, the pattern stops cold.[:((] |

| I've gotten two 36 inchers on a firetiger wades wobbler this year.Might be the bait two finally helps me bust that mark.I brought last fall and it's started catchen right out of the box.Just have to love the lure. Dennis Blume |

| Li'l Ernie and Depthraider. Only 2 that put fish in the boat so far.

| My Favorite Bait this year is a Custom Mag Bull Dog it has put over 60 Fish in the boat this year 48 of those were on a Fig 8. My wifes favorite is the Lilly tail also in a custom Color she got her two biggest fish this year on them a 40" & 43"[:sun:] |

| three baits come to mind 5 of my 8 fish came on a perch color custum jake finly tuned to perfection and 3 came on black/orange a teaser tail some action on burt too.
| |
| By far a gold metallic Jake on the Madison Chain. Think it resembles the carp that are in most of the weedbeds I fish.
I'm gonna buy another one and spray a white belly on it. See if that ups the numbers any over a regular off the shelf one.

| The UNDERETAKER!! Never have seen a bait I can use as a topwater, jerk, glide, twitch, or whatever, good for 9 so far!! Thanks, Brian. |
| |
| My beginning has had some action but from a lot of little fish. The lures that have been producing the best for me has been the Hi-Fin bucktail(Gold blade, perch body) and also a walleye colored Suick.
Good luck to all,

| Did anyone change there minds.. Its now been three months since this subject was up.[;)] |

| My fav has been the Reef Hawg as well with 31 fish in the boat this year, second is the Topraider with 19, and the biggest(45"). Also the other big faish in my boat have been caught on Topraiders, 47", 46.5", and another hefty 45.5". Dad caught the biggest in my boat this year with a 49.5(Canada) on a sucker.
Hey Handyman, your biggest is not 44", as I remember sliming my boat with a 45.5"er you got with me on a Dancin' Raider in July!!! |
| |
| I've caught most of my fish this year either on Chicka-D's or super shad raps. I love throwing depthraiders, Ernies, shallow raiders and many other crank/twitch baits but they just didn't want to hit them as much this year. The super shad rap actually is a great bait for twiching/ripping over the weeds. |

| Musky Mania's Magic Maker. I love it... but for some reason I keep calling it the "Widow Maker." I borrowed one of Pete's personal models and forgot to give it back... sorry Pete. I know you don't read this stuff but you can have it back after December 1.
