Posts: 199 Location: Sandusky, OH | Jim, The difference between the DS and the DW is that the DS is the dual consol-sport windshields (double-bubble) and the DW has the walkthrough windshield. I can't provide pictures for you because I'm boat-less trash right now LOL! Wish I could though. Eric | ||

Posts: 1764 Location: Ogden, Ut | That particular 1760 fishes much bigger than it's size would indicate. Very roomy interior (yes, it owes a bit of that to being a tiller, and a lot of that to not having a cap) and exceedingly wide. The stability of it at rest was unbelievable. Over the course of a six-day trip fishing from this boat, we had a third angler 3 of those days. It never really did feel crowded; the way the splashwell is configured, it seems to add a good bit of usable 'rear deck' space to what is already there And the livewell will hold about 60 lbs. of suckers! Posts: 144 Location: Green Bay, WI | Nice boat Lambeau. I'm interested in a 1760 with a walk through windshield (1890 won't fit in my garage very well). drop Steve (sworrall) a line and ask about a walk-through "G" model (capless). i'm pretty sure mine is the only "G" model out there right now, but i bet if you ask for something like that, they can make it. Steve would know better, but i can't think of any reason they couldn't do a walk-through version? | |||

My ideal tuffy would be 1790 Osprey/Esox (17-10 to 18 foot, 88"-90" beam, with performance hull like the 1890, capped) with a walkthrough windshield, and would fit on a single axle trailer. I need to be able to hand maneuver the boat into the 3rd stall of the garage for storage which is tough to do with a tandem. Engineering? What do you think? Edited by bobski 11/11/2006 10:06 AM | ||

that's basically what Tuffy did with their splash-well. if you look at the picture from above, you'll see the splash-well area is black. this is a non-skid coating that allows you to fish from it without slipping...it IS an extension of the back deck and it works great. the well is very slightly angled toward the center so water drains out by the motor, but it's not enough to notice when you're standing on it. in the 1760 this space is fishable, especially when combined with the livewell/deck area just in front of it. in fact, i find myself preferring to fish back there as being on a "corner" of the boat gets me even closer to the water than from up on the front deck. and in this boat, that's saying something. on the 1890 this splash-well/deck area is huge. "capless" means there is no fiberglass cap/gunnel on top of the sides of the boat, it's a new option by Tuffy. it widens the interior space by about 6-8" depending on what part of the boat, and it gets you about 4" closer to the water - very nice for deep figure-8s and releasing fish. those shiny caps look cool, but i really like how open the boat is without it. | |||

Lambeau, I liked your boat when I saw it. the one thing I did not like was the monster closed bow section(where trolling motor is mounted) which keeps the guy in front further from the water. seems they could cut down considerably on that. I did like the rear deck space with the added splashwell standing room. Very thoughtful decision to incorporate that, and is what would push me towards Tuffy at this point. | ||

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The bow cap is just large enough to properly cover the radius of the front deck and hull joint. Look at how the trolling motor mounts, too. If the front cap was smaller as you suggest, there would be no place to properly bolt on a trolling motor; right or left side. Yes, the 1890 is going to be offered as a GT and CG, call Quams Motor Sports for a quote. I'm lost as to how the bow cap keeps you further 'off the water' could you clarify? Very thoughtful decision to incorporate that, and is what would push me towards Tuffy at this point. hi Jason, it's tough to really recall specifics such as that from limited time looking at a boat such you had. imho, the bowcap APPEARS bigger than it is because there is no cap on the gunnels of the boat. so in a relative sense compared to a different fiberglass boat, the bowcap seems to take up more space. when you're up close and personal with it, it's actually quite small - just enough for the trolling motor mount and a bit of room inside for the control plugs. i found it had no impact on ability to get close to the water, which is actually better in this boat than most due to the lack of a gunnel cap and it's close set to the water. it seems to me as pretty average size when compared to other boats. now, when compared to a flat-front "plow" hull such as the brown bomber? yes, you're further from the front tip of your boat. of course, the V-hull means you can take a wave head-on without cowering as well! the water access along either side of the front deck is immense. during the Presque Isle outing we fished 3 people casting while running 3 sucker lines and everyone could figure-8. we had to be smart about it, but 6 lines like that would put any boat to the test. 3 guys can easily cast and work lures close to the water from this boat as long as they're not completely out of control. drop me a line and stop by to take a look next time you're heading south. i think if you're planning to fish a lot of larger waters (Great Lakes, Vermilion, Mille Lacs) the 1890 or 2060 is right up your alley. if it's mostly inland lakes with the occasional trolling mission to the river, or on the big waters under reasonable conditions, then the 1760 is a very competitive ride. that's how my year was and i was always comfortable and confident. | |||

I woud agree though, that without the caps, some of its 'bulkiness' probably is somewhat negated and probably did look bigger as a result. I just thought it was a bit bigger than alot of the other v's I've been in. I guess I'd need to fish out of it to check it out further. And, as you said, comparing it to the 'brown bomber(that would be Brown Streak to you my friend....) is prob. not the best thing to do. I would be more interested in the larger model. I plan to keep my rig, and replace it with a similar one when it becomes a lawn planter. the 1890T(if it comes without the caps and is appealing) would probably be the size/style.
