Congrats to all who made the podium at the Mille Lacs PMTT event last weekend! Unbelievably TOUGH bite coming into the tourney. We pre-fished Thursday & Friday and didn't see a gosh-darned thing! Same thing Saturday until a weather system showed up just to the northwest of us & then we got a few fish to move. On Saturday, we threw tons of big stuff w/o any luck, so I sized down & got a mid-40 to follow on a 6" twitch bait on the edge of some thick weeds. But, one fish does not a pattern make. The action died, so we hit some weed-laden mid-lake structure and moved 3 more: a mid-40s, a high-40s and and absolute pig 50+. They all did the do-si-do on the figure-8, then slunk back into the depths. F$&@! On Sunday, we put all our eggs into that same basket and pounded the same mid-lake reef for fish we knew were there. We raised a small (by Mille Lacs standards, at least) 40-incher mid-morning, then kept pounding until we got to the moon-underfoot window. Just after noon, we moved two more fish on big rubber & tubes: another mid-40, then another 50+. Follow, follow, follow on the 8, but just could NOTget them to EAT. A little bit frustrating, but it was our 1st time ever on that body of H2O, so we were pretty pleased with the fact that we were moving fish - more than anyone we spoke with afterward, A simple flare of the gills and nip at the bait was all it takes to go from zero to hero. Still, we had a blast! And now I can cross Mille Lacs off my bucket list! Best of luck to all who qualified for the championship at Pewaukee! My partner & I will probably see you there! Tight lines!
