I'm mounting a Lowrance Elite 5 HDI on athe console of my 7 year old Lund. The console is made of molded plastic, not fiberglass, wood, or metal.

I would prefer to use a RAM mounting system, but therein lies my questions.

Will I have issues with the console flexing, cracking, breaking, etc. In other words is there going to be to much torque or leverage with this unit. I plan to use a metal plate underneath as backing and of course, use bolt rather than screws.

Will a locator of this size and a 5" RAM mount be to much weight, bouncing, etc.

My fall back is to use the Lowrance stock base that came with the unit.

Opinions? Experience?

i ran into similar problem mounting an 898 on my console with a 2.25" Ram mount. What I did was fabricate a piece of wood to use as a solid mounting block and drilled holes through it and ran bolts through Ram, console, wood, washers, nylon nut. Mount is like a rock now, no flex.

If you spread the weight out with a back plate you'll be fine.
