I'm in the market for my first real finder. I'm leaning towards the Lowrance HDS. Can anyone tell me the difference between these two models:

Lowrance® HDS-8 Gen2 Fishfinder/GPS Chartplotter with Lake Insight® and StructureScan® LSS-2 Sonar Imaging Bundle - $1540 at BPS

Lowrance® HDS-8 Gen2 Fishfinder/GPS Chartplotter with StructureScan® Sonar Imaging Bundle - $2200 at BPS

For 40% more, there must be a major option that I'm not understanding. The model,I'm looking at is the first one in the 7 because it has a $300 rebate. I'm trying to get the most value for ~$1k. Most of my fishing is done on rivers. Most of the lakes I fish are not available on the popular mapping programs.

Good question. The only difference I see is that the cheaper one actually has the newer technology. LSS-2 is the HD structure scan. Honestly, since the $2199 option is no longer available online I think that the $2199 is an old posting that they haven't removed. The price has subsequently went down, and the bundle upgraded to include the newer Structure Scan bundle. You could call to confirm, but that is what it looks like to me.
