Here is a question for Mr. Long and all you other open water aficionados. What is your definition of open water fish or suspendos.

I have caught several fish that were definetly suspended off structure. I often times work a cast or two off structure (my favorites are mid lake reefs) and often contact fish out there over twenty plus feet of water. Now, are these fish suspendos??

If I'm fishing a mid lake hump that tops off at twenty five feet am I fishing open water fish?? What if I'm working this area with a ten inch Jake 5 feet down, now are they op-en water fish??

Is it truly only open water when I work the 30-50 foot depths that join two rock humps??

Is it only open water fishing when there are no attracting bottom features under or around me? (tried this too and absolutely hate it)

Over the last few years I have begun exploring a whole bunch of deeper water areas that I feel are very much structure related but was still wondering if they would fall under your suspendo definition.

Not that the actual definition of what I am doing matters, only if it works or not matters to me. I am curious however as to what the h#%l it should be called. Am I fishing a bunch of open water and don't even realize it??

15ft down in 50 feet of water is not uncommon for a muskie to live, eat and be happy!.[;)]

If baitfish are present, trolling 15ft down in 50ft is a good thing to do. These fish form some reason seem to be more boat shy when trolled, planner boards always produce more and often all the time. I have had three fish days where all the fish came on boards many times. Something to think about.[;)]

IMHO, if a musky is not relating to structure, it's an open water fish, unless that structure is a bait school.
