Subject: Frabill Blockbuster Muskie Net?

I have a Big Kahuna and a Power Catch Frabill net, love them. They work just fine, hold the fish just fine. Here is what Mark Gostisha says about the frabill nets:

The Big Game and Big Kahuna Catch and Release nets are built on our PowerCatch landing net frames. All PowerCatch frames feature all-extruded aluminum components. Hoop materials (reinforced oval shape), handles(triangle shape to eliminate twist) and yokes. We make PowerCatch styles with the more traditional knotted/weighted/tanglefree netting, rubber netting, and the knotless/tanglefree nets found on the Big Game and Big Kahuna nets. Both the Big Kahuna and the Big Game are sewn with large flat bottom panels that allow the nets to be used as a large livewell at boatside. All PowerCatch nets feature a limited lifetime warranty on the yoke AND THE HOOP! PowerCatch nets are in extensive use in saltwater markets for large salmon, striped bass, albacore tuna and cobia. They are starting to catch on in the musky markets as well. Nets in the PowerCatch family retail from about $79.99-$159.99.

Muskie Man

Now to Muskie Mans question on BlockBuster nets. This is a family of product built on a more traditional round handle, round hoop material frame. Again there are styles available with knotted polyethelene and one discontinued model with the knotless/tanglefree netting found on the Big Game and Big Kahuna. Basically you get all the benefits of a high quality catch and release net without the added expense of the all-extruded frame found on the PowerCatch nets. These nets retail from about $39.99-$79.99 depending on the model. They are not designed to take a lifetime of use (or abuse) that we warrant on the PowerCatch nets, but should provide enough strength for the occassional big fish angler.

Now to really confuse you Muskie Man, we make another family of product called ProFormance. These are also a traditional round handle and hoop material construction with an extruded aluminum yoke. All hoops in the ProFormance family are anodized black and the handles are anodized a champagne color. Again there are styles with the knotted/weighted/tanglefree netting, rubber nets and the knotless/tanglefree netting found on the Big Game and Big Kahuna. The nets in the ProFormance family feature a limited lifetime warranty on the yoke. Nets in this family retail from about $59.99-$89.99.

Hope this helps you. Frabill makes nets for sale all over the world, and many require a slight modiication (handle, hoop, netting combinations) to be successful for their intended market. It even confuses some of our own staff at times. Nets like the Big Game and Big Kahuna were designed specifically for the proper catch and release of musky.

It seems that some anglers really like the fancy all extruded frames found on the PowerCatch family and other anglers like the more traditional round hoop/handle nets. Pick the net frame that you like, but for musky fishing it is important to pick a netting style that is both knotless and tanglefree. Frabill was the first company to use this style netting for the catch and release of muskies. The fish slide across the netting without damage to fin or skin, the flat bottom panels make it easy to remove hooks and measure the fish while still in the net...and water. Remember the fish do their breathing in the water. Cameras can be found and readied while the fish recuperates stress free. A couple quick shots and the fish in back in the water.

If you have further questions post them here or you can Email me at [email protected]. I will be out of town, without internet access, for a couple days so please be patient for a reply.

Thanks for your interest in Frabill products,
