Location: Pewaukee, WI | The hooks on the clip and go rigs have worked good for me, and I also like the Mustad 35647 round bend in the 1/0, 2/0 or 3/0. Depending on the size of the sucker's i can get. I don't like a over sized or xxx heavy hook. The suckers I can get are pond raised and if they have to carry heavy hooks around all day on there backs, they get tired in a hurry. It's tough to beat a lively sucker that is always swimming around. If I can get the super big suckers I have some rigs with (2) 6/0 Mustad 3551 hooks on them.
As far as hooks up's, the big thing for me is to make sure the musky is swimming AWAY for you when you set the hook. If you "just set the hook" when the sucker get's hit, for all you know the musky could be pointed right at you and all you do is pull the sucker out of it's mouth. When the musky is swimming away, you should always hook them in the corner of the mouth as planned! |
