| Could use some quick advise. My old Motorguide trolling motor finally let go. Want to replace it with a Minnkota. Does anybody have any comment on the EDGE trolling motor? I am on a very tight budget and this motor is $350 less than the Maxumm motor. I know the Maxumm has a breakaway shaft and the Edge does not. Is just the composite shaft safe enough to use. |

| I bought the 70 lb thrust Edge motor for my 18' Lund Fisherman. It works great, even on windy days. However, I got it right before I went on vacation. I fished with a guide who had the I-pilot on a terrova. I am still wishing I had waited and saved up a little more money and went that route. With the Edge you are stuck with the foot controls. With the I-pilot or the co-pilot you have the whole boat to control the boat from. I called Minnkota when I got back and they informed me that you can not use either upgrade on the Edge series. I would suggest that if you don't have the money for the I-pilot or Co-pilot at least purchase a motor that you can upgrade to in the future. Still wishing I had!! |

Location: Northwest WI | I've used the composite shaft for years, with no trouble. I have a 24 V Maxxum on my larger boat, and a 12B Edge on a smaller boat. Both work great.
