Hey basement crazies. I have a few baits that I'm thinking of giving some spraycan paint jobs to this winter (as I'm not going to get way into this so no air brushing etc). Do I need to sand the bait down to get to the base plastic, then paint, then epoxy, or can I just scuff up the paint a bit and go from there. I'm only looking to paint the back and belly and leave the sides alone for now on one (10" jake), but if I have other baits I want to mess with, just curious as to what I need to do to repaint them.

Thanks boys!

Joel

You could scuff them up with a SOS pad , don't get to close to the edges or you will remove the paint, wash the bait and dry, Paint away, let dry and then epoxy.

P.S. Practice before you spray.

You could skip the epoxy step and just use some rattle can lacquer for a top coat.  It won’t be as durable, but it will be easier to repaint again in a couple years.
