"Was looking at getting a 400te. Now I hear rumours that Shimano is not making replacement parts for the Calcuttas. Anyone hear the same or experience this?"

This was posted on the Muskies Canada form a while back if true there could be a lot of unhappy campers.

How long should a manufacturer keep parts available after discontinueing a model particularly a higher end product?

Are you indirectly saying that Shimano is discontinuing 400TEs?

Hi, All Calcutta 400TE parts are available through Shimano in Irvine Ca for all United States customers. Many service centers also have parts. Canada customers have to order from a Canadian source which could be limited. I know this because I have Musky customers calling me from Canada looking for parts. The original parts for Calcutta models with prefix code CT made from 1991 -2003 are limited such as the popular model CT400. Gears, drags, shafts, worms, pawls, bearings are all still available. All Calcutta B models made since 2004 and current, no problem with parts. Hope this helps. - Mark @ Dave's Reel Service
