Subject: Depthfinder Question

I just bought a boat and the rear depthfinder says I am in 500-733 feet of water. Since I was in a small Iowa pothole in 4 foot of water I am inclined to disagree with it. Anyone have any idea what the issue is? Front sounder worked fine.

Edit: Transducer is pointed straight down.

my guess would be a cut in the wire some where and the ducer needs to be replaced,I just had the same prob on my front depth finder when I turned my trolling motor head way to far(LIKE 360) and it pinched the wire.I knew what I did right away and instantly it started reading 300-400 ft.

I would agree, guessing the transducer is bad. If you can find a buddy that has the same hookups, double check the unit, but definitely guessing it's the transducer.
