Noticed in the R & H catalog the Tyrant Tackle wide gap-short shank extra heavy hooks from 2/0 to 7/0...anyone use or could provide feedback.

The reason we came out with them is it allows you to use a larger hook on your lures without them fouling.

Just speculation here, but I'd guess this may come from an idea I came across with the Tyrant jerk bait--I picked up a couple Tyrant jerk baits last season and felt the hooks were a tad small for my tastes on a bait that size. I upsized the hooks, but the problem I ran into was the hooks got hung up on the ridge that runs along the side of the Tyrant. My solution was to file the ridge off on those places where the upsized hooks were getting hung up on that ridge with limited success. Reading this post, it seems a better solution for the Tyrant would be short-shanked wide gapped hooks.
