| I've watched all the winter videos posted on the site and must admit I am impressed. But I must also admit that at this point I am rooting for the gills. They are so stupid. One of their number gets nailed by the power from above; and they just hang around. "Get the h--- out of there and never touch anything dangling from a string. Or you too will disappear above the ice." Oh well..
In this connection, when is ice out in North Wisconsin--where I presume the videos are made? To all appearances, spring is in the process of springing in the Great PA and I doubt there is any safe ice left in the state. Robins are on the ground, crocuses are blooming, and this morning I saw worms crawling on a parking lot in Harrisburg. That's spring. Yesterday I crossed the Appalachians going East. Today I crossed going West. The only evidence of winter is at the very top of the highest ridges, where there is still some snow.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I'd say about April 15 or so. We are in one of the warmest mid March weeks I've ever seen, so ice will be bad by Friday, but by the following Monday should be firmed up again. If you don't like the weather in WI... just wait a week. |
