Mercury Lower Unit Lube. Any lower unti lube will be fine, even Wal Mart has the stuff.

I was told last weekend that you should use full synthetic (green) for your main motor. They said you could get away with the blend (yellow) for your kicker. The only reason it came up in conversation is I didn't realize that there was a difference until I went to change my lube recently, and noticed that the lube I bought was different than what was in there. This is just what I was told. The full synthetic holds up better in larger engines. Any truth to this?

Use Mercury High Perf gearlube. Also available in Merc's aftermarket brand..AKA Quicksilver..at Gander Mtn and other similar stores. Says to use in 75HP motors and above.

I used mobil 1 synthetic 80w90 gear lube for years with no problem. After all it is the same as a transmission/gearbox. Found synthetic works better if water gets in, it stays mixed with less chance of freezing if you do not get it changed soon enough in the fall.
