Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I have a communication from the Canadian promoters indicating the event has been canceled and moved to next year, but as of today do not yet have a release from them. The scheduling of the Can/Am for next year is, according to the folks from Kenora, pending meetings with the Ministry of Natural Resources. I should have enough of the actual (not rumored, I feel it's necessary to speak directly with the Pormoters) details in hand tomorrow to get a press release up. It seems the Ministry initially gave the event a green light, then later indicated no CPR could be used on fish under 54". In a nutshell, the ruling seems to indicate no one...that means you too...can legally take a picture of a 'sub legal' fish in Ontario, as that indicates the fish was restrained despite a near immediate release. It's OK to measure the fish to determine if it's legal, but not to take a picture...even of the measuring process. The communication I was sent indicates meetings have been scheduled to come up with an acceptable compromise so Kenora can go ahead with the event in 2010. If that compromise doesn't come about, the Canadian promoter may decide to hold the event in the US.
The meeting results may also have implications for a potential future Can/Am Walleye event . |
