I am pretty much just getting started in this whole musky fishing addiction and can't wait to hit the water this summer. Any ways my question is I bought 2 rods and will be putting Abu Garcia Reels on both. Would you recommend the 5500 or 6500 size? Thanks.

I just got the 6600 C5 Mag-X and loooove it! I have used Abu Garcia's for years and have had little trouble. I also like the Calcutta's 250/400. They are rather pricey though and if you are just getting started, the 6500's are a good choice for the money. Do yourself a favor and choose a good line! I like Courtland Spectron, it's never failed me. I would suggest 35lb-60lb test.

Now go get 'em.....

Hi. I only have been fishing Muskies for three years now and I have three Abu's in the 5600 series. I have them all spooled with 80LB Whiplash. They are great for casting and hold 150 yards of Whip for trolling. Great reals. Never had any problems with them. I like the Whiplash because of its Hight strength to Diameter Ratio. If you like other lines, go to the 6500 because they have a higher Diameter.
