Location: So. Illinois | I picked up a few mag dawgs this fall along with some other heavier baits. I am picking up a Bulldauwg rod this week and was wondering about reels. Do I need to use a beefier reel? Right now, I am using 6500/C3 and 6600/C4 series Abu Garcias and I also have a Pflueger Trion 66. Will these be ok for throwing 8 - 13oz baits? What are the rest of you using. Also what length of rod do you prefer to use for your heavy baits - thinking of going with the 8 or 8-6?

| I don't use any other special reels for Bulldawgs/Curly Sues than I would for other baits (300 Luna). You should be just fine throwing your big plastics on your C3/C4. Might even find the C4 more to your liking since it can pick up line a little faster (for those Suick-style sweeps that work so well with BDs/Curly Sues). |

| I use an older C3 for bigger baits like that. I wouldn't use a C4 for much of anything because the gears are not as strong. If you're going to use a newer C3, it'll work fine, but you might consider keeping a spare around for when your cluch arm goes bad. |
