I am just getting started building my own lures and I'm looking for some asweres to a couple questions.
First of all what type of wood do you guys use for making:
Jerk baits (like a Jake or Grandma style)?
Gliders that sink?
Top water?
Before you paint them do you seal or prime the wood? If so what do you use?

Thanks in advance for any opinions given, the Winter months are killin me this year and I need something to pass the season along and waiting for a flag on a tip-up isnt cutting it.

Poplar is a good general all-around wood for both topwaters and gliders.
You can buy it at Home Depot.
You do seal the wood --with either sanding sealing or poly-crylic before using a primer and clear coat.
Make sure you allow the bait to FULLY DRY between coats.
Good luck to you!
