Has anyone used the Okuma rods yet? If so, how do you like them? I'm looking at the jerkbait rod and wondering if it will handle 5-6 oz. baits.

Hey Cameron...

There are some of the guys on this board that have used the current Okuma rods that we have available. Those are the EVX-C-6101XH and the EVX-C-741H. We really didn't do our research well when we brought those rods out. They are severely mislabled as far as lure weights. The H version I use for Mag Dawgs and Pounders along with other heavy baits. The XH is a true broomstick that can handle almost anything. I have changed the lure ratings and the next shipment will come in with the correct ratings.

I have developed a 5 additional rods to fill the holes. They are going to be introduced at the ICAST show next week and should be available the end of August. Once I have stock, I will post on where they can be purchased. I amy even do a promotion through this website if the powers that be allow me to.

The rods that I am bringing out will be the following...

EVC-C-761MH - This will be a smaller bucktail & topwater rod.

EVX-C-801H - This is a rod I developed also for topwater and the bigger cowgirl type bucktails.

EVX-T-801H - This is a trolling rod that our Canadian agents asked for. It's not what the U.S. market asks for in a Musky trolling rod but has perked some interest from the Canadian who prefer to troll with a stiffer rod.

EVX-C-861H-T - This is a heavy action telescopic rod that is being used by my testers for topwater, cowgirls, smaller Dawgs and tritching smaller cranks and jerks.

EVX-C-861XH-T - This also is a telescopic rod that is being used by some for bigger cranks, mag dawgs as well as pounders.

These rods are going to retail for $89 - $109 and all come with a lifetime warranty.

If you have any questions... please let me know.

Cameron,
I've been using the EVX-C-861H-T since the end of May and so far I can't say enough good things about it. It has been used primarily for smaller gliders (i.e., Baby Wabull, Muskie Treat), smaller swim baits and twitch baits. The rod handles an amazing range of bait weights and works them all easily.
I have not owned any of the 'expensive' rods (in the same length and action) before, so I really don't have a good means to compare it to another brand, but at the price point, I think even my wife will let me buy another one. And I probably will.

p.s. The telescoping feature of this rod ROCKS!
