i have been checking on upgrading to a newer lowrance unit and i was told by several guys to stay away from the 16c its been discontuinued faster than they made them..bill also ask guys on www.bassboatcentral.com they know alot on that board

Good unit. No problems with reliability that I am aware of. Biggest issue is that it's hard to read in the bright sunlight. You may be able to upgrade the screen for better viewing for $100. Not completely sure on that. Also, the processor updates pretty slow if you have some of the newer map chips in them. The original Navionics Hotspot maps worked well. Slow to load and save data to MMC cards, too.
