I have heard that if a muskie angler really wants a 50" fish, that the Ottawa is the place to be. How is the density of 50" fish in relation to smaller fish, and what kind of shot at a 50" does an angler have in, say, three days out on the water with a Ottawa River guide?

Let me try this again

The Ottawa river produces many fish over 50 inches every year. It is a very large body of water with muskies in some 300 miles of it. Like any other good body of water there are a lot of dead waters and much less good ones.

As for density well there must be tonnes of smaller fish as all the big females are released to reproduce again. I don't catch that many as I use larger lures and different techniques to concentrate on the bigger fish. The average experienced muskie angler will put in 8 hours to catch a fish and will get a 50+ incher for every 20 fish. You can cut them numbers in half for me. I know some guys that comes here on their own for a week or two every year and have not scored yet on their 3rd+ year and others who do right away.

I would say an angler has as good of if not better shot fishing 3 days with me then anywhere else. I can go weeks without a 50+ and then catch 2 in a day or multiple in a weeks time. One thing for sure if we don't get you your 50+ we will hook you up with a big one. We have a large poppulation of 47 inch to 55 inch fish in most sections of the river.

I would reccomend a guide for your first trip or so to help in eliminating that dead waters and learn the good ones.

Hey Steve, I will let you know in a few months!!! I think August I will be up there for my maiden voyage, and 2 or 3 weeks in Oct. I will be fishing with Marc Thorpe if my brother can ever get his dates together. Also, those muskie hunters up there will be able to see a Tuffy boat meandering through...Take care, Ben Remer
