Dang! I can't get on the water this weekend OR next. (I've got snake shows booked.) But I could get out of work in time to hit Pewaukee or Okauchee bu about 3:30 or 4:00 pm on a weekday. I've never fished either one. Anybody willing to provide some help:

1) Is it worth the trip? Howmuch time on the water can I expect? How late are these lakes productive this early in the season, considering yhe early sunset and cooler water?
2) Which lake is easier/quicker to cope with, first time? Also, which is going to be less of a hassle to find the ramp and get out in the dark?
3) What should I throw for likely success as a confidence-builder? At this point I'm not targeting Big Mama, I just want some assurance I'm not wholly screwing up.

Mike, you should try Silver. That is alot closer (about 30mins from Racine). You should be able to see some fish there, and you will get more time on the water. It is also quite a bit smaller than Pewaukee and Okauchee.

If you are set on going to Pewaukee or Okauchee, I would say you have a better shot at contacting a fish on Pewaukee. It is more of a numbers lake than Okauchee. Plus, there is the shot at a nice fish. This time of year, start out shallow and in the bays. The fish should be getting hungry, and will be accessable casting into June.

Go to Pewaukee: It's pretty much an hour-glass with one side shallow a narrows and a deep end. You can put-in at the 2 Smokies bait shops (East and Central) or the County on the West end.
