Subject: Tuffy Magnum deck reinforcement

Last year I noticed the trolling motog deck on my 96 esox magmun getting loose around the front of the boat where the deck cap and hull meet. In taking it apart I found the pop rivets very loose and most of the screws holding in the bumper strip stripped as well. Has anybody else run into this problem and if so what was your remedy, short of taking it to the factory.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Corey Meyer

SImply re-rivet the deck after drilling out the old rivets, then use 1 size larger stainless screw dipped in silicone before installing. A rivet gun can be purchased at any hardware store for a few bucks.

Thanks Steve,
The area where the rivets and screws went through looked like swiss cheese and quite a few of the holes were developing cracks so I called a local body shop guy to look at it and give him a few ideas to see if possible. I am going to have him resin in all the existing holes and on the hull and cap. We are going to use 3 layers of 3/32" veneer strips and fabric around the inside of the hull area and fabric the inside of the cap. As long as the cap is off we are also going to add additional reinforcing under the cap, using plywood and fabric. The estimate for doing this was under 300 dollars which was not too bad and better than watching my trolling motor flip over the bow of the boat is rough water!!

Thanks again,

Corey
