Spent a couple days on Leech this week. I figured with water temps 71-75, I'd find the fish had moved to the rocks. It appears I was ahead of them, I struck out.

I was there 4 days, Sunday-Wednesday. Saw 6 fish total, boated 2. One out in open water, one in weeds. Was very disappointed in the openwater fishing. Bait galore (often high in the column),hooks around and below but only 2 Muskie strikes in about 20 hours. Surprising number of pike bites ‘out there’. I fished 3 basins and same everywhere. Get home only to find out it was really ‘on’ in another basin. Figures.

Fished what is left of the weeds in Portage Bay the last couple of outings. On the first outing there was a bucktail bite. Saw four and caught one on bucktails. Lost track of how many pike I caught. Yesterday, the fish showed a preference for any presentation with a pause. Caught one on a slammer twitch bait and lost a good one on a shallow invader. Pike were even more ridiculous so I switched to a tail rotator at dusk. Didn't see a thing. In retrospect, I should have switched to a walk-the-dog bait that included periodic pauses...
