Location: MN | In my experience, that time of year can be hit or miss, and they can be located all over. I've caught fish doing all of the following:
- casting shallow main lake rocks (<5')
- casting sandy weedy bays & saddles (8-10')
- trolling and casting 10-12' down over rock humps and points topping at 10-20' depth
- jigging 25-30' down on steep point
- trolling 25' down over 45' through bait schools
- trolling 25' down on hard/soft transition
I suggest starting with traditional main lake spots, and if you aren't seeing anything, try mixing in deeper spots and looking for bait concentrations. Generally, warmer weather --> shallow, and cold fronts --> deep in my experience, but I don't know how rigid that is.
