Heading up there for the 2nd time a week from today, gonna try to fish muskies more this time then I did last time.

any suggestions on areas to hit, how to fish (trolling/casting/suspended/shallow)

obviously don't need anybody's secrets but would love to be successful this time. last time we only rose one fish while casting and caught 1 large northern trolling. although we fished Walleye's a lot.

we will be staying at sand lake outpost http://www.sandlakeoutpost.com/index.htm

Location: MN
In my experience, that time of year can be hit or miss, and they can be located all over. I've caught fish doing all of the following:

- casting shallow main lake rocks (<5')
- casting sandy weedy bays & saddles (8-10')
- trolling and casting 10-12' down over rock humps and points topping at 10-20' depth
- jigging 25-30' down on steep point
- trolling 25' down over 45' through bait schools
- trolling 25' down on hard/soft transition

I suggest starting with traditional main lake spots, and if you aren't seeing anything, try mixing in deeper spots and looking for bait concentrations. Generally, warmer weather --> shallow, and cold fronts --> deep in my experience, but I don't know how rigid that is.

Good luck! Great location IMO - easy access to both Big and Little Sand. When up there, I stay on Harbor Island (family cabin) - next door on the way to Minaki.
