It seems I've had a series of lip break offs on cranks recently. Last was an old style 6" grandma that hit a rock (never caught a fish yet) rather gently. Broke clean off - almost no lip left. Anyone ever tried drilling a hole near the front and one near the rear of the bait and pouring some lead (or anywhere) to try and get a jerkbait from the ruined crank? Any suggestions for the mainstream cranks: jakes, grandmas, DDDs, Buchers, etc?

Thanks,
MJB

Why not just replace the lip? Make one out of lexan. You can even change the shape to get a completely different running bait. Use a bandsaw/scrollsaw or coping saw to cut out the old blade. Cut and shape a new blade and epoxy it in place. You might want to crazy glue it first and then water test before you epoxy. Try a Wiley type lip in the grandma and you can troll even faster with it.

You don't even have to make them, you can buy them out of Rollie and Helens, they're in the very back of the catalog. I can't remember what size I bought but they fit in the 6" grandmas perfect. They were so snug that I didn't have to glue them in to try them. I just stick them in and try them, when you get them where they run right let them dry a few minutes and super glue them so they don't move til you can epoxy them in place.
