| It seems I've had a series of lip break offs on cranks recently. Last was an old style 6" grandma that hit a rock (never caught a fish yet) rather gently. Broke clean off - almost no lip left. Anyone ever tried drilling a hole near the front and one near the rear of the bait and pouring some lead (or anywhere) to try and get a jerkbait from the ruined crank? Any suggestions for the mainstream cranks: jakes, grandmas, DDDs, Buchers, etc?
Thanks,
MJB

Location: Kawarthas, Ontario | Why not just replace the lip? Make one out of lexan. You can even change the shape to get a completely different running bait. Use a bandsaw/scrollsaw or coping saw to cut out the old blade. Cut and shape a new blade and epoxy it in place. You might want to crazy glue it first and then water test before you epoxy. Try a Wiley type lip in the grandma and you can troll even faster with it. |

Location: W. PA. | You don't even have to make them, you can buy them out of Rollie and Helens, they're in the very back of the catalog. I can't remember what size I bought but they fit in the 6" grandmas perfect. They were so snug that I didn't have to glue them in to try them. I just stick them in and try them, when you get them where they run right let them dry a few minutes and super glue them so they don't move til you can epoxy them in place. |
