Muskie action on the CAVE has been good at times and then those times I can’t find them (only smaller fish for me so far). A good number of fish have been taken since my return from the Northwoods. Seems the early and late bite is still the best. Look in the shallows with buzzbaits and spinnerbaits in the backs of coves and on the main lake flats. Water temps are in the mid 70’s with our water level just over summer pool. Trolling has taken a few fish but the best times for that presentation are still to come. Bulldawgs seem to be starting to produce around the deep weed edges. Our water is somewhat clear to murky in spots. Cooler nights are upon us so look for the action to really turn on.

It's muskie time...think Grim Reaper

Muskies are going strong on the CAVE as Justin has stated on the board, many super fish have been taken in the last week. Congradulations to local angler Dennis Butcher landed a 54 incher on a Grim Reaper 900, Dennis is probably THE BEST muskie angler on the Cave, he has taken many trophy fish and has been taking them longer than any other person that fishes the CAVE. His wife's not bad either, you my recall Eve's 51 inch beauty that she took a couple of years back. Myself and most all local guides have learned an endless amount of muskie info from these two "Truely Legendary Kentucky Anglers". Another local angler landed a gaint muskie of 54.25 taken on a Grim Reaper 1500, this fish was first witnessed by two guest of Mountain Muskie Lodge who did the measurements at Scott's Creek Marina right after the catch. I am posting a picture of both these great fish on my site in the next few days. Also a fat 52 incher was taken early last week. For me nothing real big yet but the last 2 days have given my clients 6 muskies to 41 inches. We have lost some quality fish as well. Guest at Mountain Muskie lodge have accounted for some good reports as well with 44 and 45 inchers this past week. Look for the fish up shallow in the backs of coves and on the main lake flats near weeds. Topwaters like the Top Raider and Hammerhead by River Run Tackle have accounted for some good fish for my clients, but it seems that spinnerbaits and bucktails are producing best. Try black and gold, black and silver and white for best results. Trolling has not been a great producing method so far, fish seem to be holding shallow. Look for trolling to pick up as our water cools. We still have guide openings and or lodging for our prime Big Fish hunts in October, November and December, call 1800-452-1600 for details.

Hope to see ya on the water

The past ten days on the Cave have been hit or miss, early has been productive and as it heats up things slow. The AM is showing very good action from main lake weeds. But yesterday a front came through and the fish really turned on. David and his clients boated a fat 48 incher on a Hang Ten Manta while my guy boat a nice 42.5 on the small verison. Seems they are finally moving on glides. Black and gold spinners and bucktails still is your best bet, they have accounted for 13 fish this week from our guest. Several large fish this week taken. Guest here at Mountain Muskie Lodge have found good success down Beaver Creek and the River as well. Trolling has still been slow but look for it to pick up..
