Location: Lake Elmo, MN | If you have some time to sneak away I strongly advise you do so and head north to the Wiley Point area of Lake of the Woods. I just returned from the most amazing fishing I have experienced since taking it up over 40 years ago.
Muskies are still out of season, so no muskie reports here (but some were hooked and safely released without boating, photos, measurement etc).
But the real story is the Pike/Walleye/Smallmouth bite. It was simply off the charts. We fished 3 1/2 days and I cannot remember going more than 5 minutes EVER without a bite on our boat. Literally hundreds and hundreds of fish were caught. We had several instances of "triples" (3 guys in our boat), and I once had a streak of 6 straight casts with fish on. Caught over twenty smallies 19-22". Most others were in the 2-3 lb class. Walleyes caught were ALL caught casting. We never once jig-fished.
I caught so many smallies that my fingerprint on my thumb was altered to a point that it won't open my iPhone security !! My thumb feels like it has 20 paper cuts on it.
First cast of the trip I caught a 43" Pike, and third cast my son got a 42 incher that was as stout as any Musky I've caught ever. HUGE fish.
Simply astonishing fishing this past 4 days !!!
