Is there a depth finder available with side imaging in the $300 or less range? Seems the couple I've seen also have GPS and that gets the price up near $500. Lots of DI for cheaper but not SI that I am aware of.

Nope, $500 is the cheapest new side imager you can buy

Helix SI is the cheapest you will find. I bought one last month from Gander with a 50 rebate so it came down to 450. Works great.
