Location: Des Moines IA | After putting 1000$ and hours of frustration into the boat in the last week, am I the only one who thinks it might have been smarter (financially, healthwise, and sanity wise) to start smoking crack instead of muskie fishing? Just about had enough this week, and it's only Monday!!!!

Location: Eastern Ontario | I was walking down the street this morning and saw a guy banging his head on a parking meter. I asked him why he was doing it. He said because it felt so good when he stopped.

Posts: 7115 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Ken has had my boat for almost 5 weeks. I am so angry that I can't call him (for fear that I would be such a cockatrice to him that he will go into my boat and promptly pee all over the floor). I'm right there with you, pal. Canada Cheese. Tommie 6 bowls of Mac and Cheese. Dude, wake up there's a fish on the sucker. (happy memories of fishing)

Posts: 159 | After spending almost 20 years fishing Musky's in a cheap 14 foot tiller with an old Evinrude 25 hoarse----Bought my first real boat last summer--- Spent a ton--really fast, cool looking, lots of room, electronics, the wife even loved to ride in it---after two trips to the shop---at almost a grand each---I was wondering why I ever wanted the big fancy boat. Living in Alaska on an Island everyone up here knows the true definition of boat---"A hole in the water where you throw money" and "Bring out another thousand". Don't even get me started on rod/reels/baits etc..... Not a lot of really poor Musky fisherman!

Posts: 22 | This is a such a timely thread! My buddy and I were just discussing the same thing over a beer this past weekend. We both made significant investments in electronics upgrades and have been fighting with our rigs ever since...

Posts: 1906 Location: Oconto Falls, WI | In the last few weeks: New axle - $700 New tires - $300 New TM batteries - $300 Put hole in hull – still waiting on estimate to repair! Was told that I will also need new leaf springs before the end of the year. Of course the kind I currently have they no longer make, and thus the place would have to weld new hangers onto the trailer. Est cost is $350. Wish I would have just bought a new trailer! Also debating getting the boat re-carpeted as it needs it badly. On the bright side my motor runs good (knock on wood)! Edited by CiscoKid 5/17/2011 6:53 AM

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | tearing out the guts of mine and re-rigging the entire power system, tying the kicker into the main fuel and steering and putting it on the correct (for me) side of the big motor, considering a terrova and upgrading the big screen at the console ... might as well just go buy another boat. based on the way work is going, i may have it done in-time to not use it and put it away in better condition than it was when i didn't get to use it ...

La de da de de La de da da de da Nothing has broken this year, yet but I'm sure to have another tire blow out on the way to Canada or Minnesota happens every year or so. Oh wait the CPS module did stop working last week.

Posts: 551 Location: Columbus, Georgia | Lot's of guys responding to the original post, but aside from MuskieMike's frustration ... I have no clue as to what he is frustrated about. I guess expressing frustration is enough to get folks blood rushing???? If the frustration comes from neither seeing nor catching fish ... join the crowd. I stopped counting the $$$ a few years ago, as there is no factor other than the enjoyment of chasing Muskies to ever justify the investment. Edited by cjrich 5/17/2011 5:01 PM

| Let's face reality fellas-we're all nuts. Talk about throwing money at a hole in the water I was fishing the Petenwell Musky Challenge last weekend when my lower unit exploded leaving a fist size hole in the darn thing. Awesome! At least we caught a nice fish. | |||

Keith and I could have fixed that rig with stuff we have in the garage. Life's short. Spend it. Enjoy it. No better way to do that than fish. Well, all right, but THAT costs alot more.

Posts: 572 | I'm frustrated I don't have 1000's to put into a boat. However, it is great to look forward to waking up in the morning and saying good morning world, I'm here to enjoy the day. Once one comes close to death, the problems of 1000's and feelings become a little less value. Believe me, it is great to wake up each morning to another day of life. I'm looking forward to tomorrow morning.

Posts: 1536 Location: God's Country......USA..... Western Wisconsin | OMG here I thought I was the only one with these dark and sinister thoughts about $$$ and the need to chase these dang fish. I am the lucky one I guess, bought a "parts" motor for $700 and used the CPU, Throttle position sensor, compressor, engine mid section with power trim etc. Sold the lower unit for enough to cover the engine cost and only paid $800 labor. Still have the fuel rails and the coil packs along with other assorted parts. Just purchased a new trolling motor as well, mine was 11 years old with who the heck knows how many hours or revolutions. Not only that but where I am Musky season is not even open yet. I need to go to the Northwoods with sworral and have a venison steak on the grill or something.

Posts: 829 Location: Maple Grove, MN | I stopped upgrading my boat years ago. Now I just maintain it. Good maintenance will certainly help, but not eliminate high repair bills. Boats cost money to own - live with it. Here are a few things I have learned: - Most new lures rarely get wet. People use lures they trust and new lures are often tried a little and then put aside permanently if they don't produce. - New boats are just that - new. If a new boat doesn't provide anything your old one didn't, why buy it? - A new boat rarely increases fishing success. If anything, people tend to spend more time driving and less time fishing when they get a larger/faster boat. - New electronics rarely help catch fish. Unless if new electronics provide something you don't currently have that would help position the boat or locate fish, there is no reason to buy new electronics. After all, who drives around looking at their fish finder when Muskie fishing? And what good does it do a person to see the same thing in color instead of black and white? Most "upgrades" don't help. New rods, reels, lures, boats and electronics are all to often just a waste of money and often don't work any better that what they are replacing. Been there. Done all of that. Dumb is as dumb does. Tough part is stopping.... Edited by Herb_b 6/3/2011 1:12 PM
