Posts: 64 | I recently caught and released my first 50+ here in Illinois and in all the excitement i forgot to take a girth measurement. I'm thinking of getting a replica done and i don't want to over estimate the girth. She was just under 51", what would you say the girth on this size fish would be approximately? Also, Lax, or Fittante, or others? Thanks - Lance Z Attachments ---------------- IMG_5405 [640x480].JPG (58KB - 238 downloads)

Location: SE Wisconsin | I'm going with 22" girth. Regarding replica artists, I'm a big fan of Fittante's work, through and through. No disrespect to Lax, Rick does awesome work, too, but there's something about Fittante's mastery in painting and body shape that pulls my trigger.

21" +/- an inch Oh and talking to Fittante at the show, he said he can pretty much figure out the girth from the pic? Edited by Baby Mallard 8/21/2009 12:56 PM

Posts: 101 | I caught a 47in fish that had a 21 girth and it appeared the same size as the one you are holding. I would think 21-22 is pretty close. I'm 5'10" 230lb for comparison. ~Dawg Attachments ---------------- 6568_1028398727919_1763850550_57598_2626837_n.jpg (77KB - 129 downloads)

Posts: 1287 Location: WI | 21". Last month I caught a 49x20 and it looks like a similar build. Catch it again in a couple months when it's thicker!

Posts: 317 | Lance, it was a big, beautiful fish. Go with 21-22" and be done. It doesn't need to be exact. No disrespect for Lax, but Fittante is the hands down best at capturing the play of colors and markings of a live fish. My 51" will be repo'd by Fittante!

Location: Illinois | 2% of me thinks it's 22.125 on the head. Lance, don't let not knowing frustrate you any. Call it whatever you think it is, man is that a hawg! So what girth do YOU think it has, anyway? Inquiring minds want to know! Another suggestion: have the above photo memorialized in a painting. That picture tells so much more of the story than a repro ever could! Awesome, congrats again, and good luck choosing a taxidermist.

Posts: 64 | Thanks for the estimates guy's, Mike, i was thinking the same as most here 21, or 22. Honestly i don't think i would see much difference between the two so i just wanted to see what the average guess was and go with that. Yeah, my daughter was a little spooked by this 1. Hahahaha! But she was able to release three others for me that day so she was kind of prepared for this one even though she doesn't look like it. I think she was just spooked how big these fish can actually get. Thanks alot guy's! Lance Z. Posts: 295 | 20-21 sounds good, give advanced taxidermy a look also! theyre out of toronto, by far the best ive seen. they can do awesome mounts with just a single picture and length. a little more expensive than lax or fittante, but if you hit the exchange rate at the right time the price isnt that far off. imho, these guys are in a class of their own, they just arent as well known in WI and MN because lax and fittante are everywhere. their worth whatever they want to charge when its gonna hang on your wall for the rest of your life. and by the way, they are very timely when it comes to their work so you wont have to wait forever to get it on the wall. p.s. sweet fish bro!
