Posts: 1516 | I was changing hooks on a bait yesterday and what a pain when using the pliers I have. Does anyone have a pair of pliers made for larger pliers for Muskie sized split rings? Where did you find them ?

Location: Contrarian Island | my favorite are a pair that Rollie and Helens carries...they have a black handle, not sure they even have a brand name. They have them at the store but not on their website... otherwise the Rapala or Shimano split ring pliers on their site are decent

Posts: 1039 Location: North St. Paul, MN | That Lazer brand, the blue handle will rip off...making it very uncomfortable. I padded the heck out of mine with duct tape. Now the handle is soft and comfortable in my hands. I do like it for its intention.

Have a larger, more expensive pair, Rapala I think, but like the Lazer better.

Posts: 841 Location: Southwest PA | I actually really like the rapala mini split ring pliers. It took a little bit to get used to them but I can fly with them now and they take up very little space in my tackle bag.

Posts: 1663 Location: Kodiak, AK | I live on an island in Alaska and everyone just uses needle nose pliers here, so when I needed a new pair...none to be found so I had to go to Amazon. Found these and they turned out working so well, I ordered a second pair, and a pair of the "small" for small stuff. They've been great. https://www.amazon.com/Texas-Tackle-30101-Split-Ring-Plier/dp/B000N2...

Posts: 670 Location: mercer wi | I probably cut hooks out of 90% of the fish I catch. It's just easier to cut hook then to try to rip big hooks out of the fishes face. Split ring pliers make it a breeze to change hooks. Other times I change is if the lure comes with junk hooks. I'm a big vmc fan.

Hook changes as needed but I'm constantly using split ring pliers to change lures since I refuse to use a snap on any of my casting leaders.
