| This weekend I was up by Lake Tomahawk area and there was a 54 1/2 inch fish that weighed 43 lbs 5 oz in a freezer at a bait shop. It was bitter sweet seeing that huge fish but knowing I dont have a chance to catch that one anymore. If it was released does this fish hit 50 pounds this fall? |

| this may be the same fish that is on the Musky Hunter site. They say it ate a bulldawg and couldn't be relaesed. Nice fish |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | It is. The angler attempted to release it, (His attempt to release was witnessed), and she just wouldn't go. On the bright side, a 52.5 was caught a couple days later and released successfully.
From an official report:
'This is Tom Gildseth of Minocqua. The fish was caught in the Turtle Flambow Flowage, caught on a bull dog and died during release. The fish was 54 1/2" & 43.5 lbs
The 52.5 was caught and released on Tomahawk.

| I thought I had read that the fish was caught on the Flambeau Chain, not the TFF, and it doesn't look like a TFF fish.
This fellow is a pretty good fisherman, he kept another big one years back if I remember right. For this fish to weigh 50 in the fall would take a heavier weight right now I think. Beautiful fish though.

Location: Hayward, WI | Too bad the fish wouldn't release, but things happen. I'm not going to accuse a guy I don't know of just "saying" it wouldn't release.
No matter what, that was a VERY big fish. Almost hard to believe it was 'only' 43 pounds!

Location: oswego, il | I have to back up FSF on this one, it does not look like any musky I have ever seen from the TFF. Looks like it came from clear water. Huge fish, congrats to the angler. |

| thats a monster, a fish like that can swallow any bait you throw at it w/ a twitch of its tail....had it happen a few times, gone down the throat bleeding all over coming into the boat. |

Well it seems then we aren't using big enough lures. The bigger the fish is the smaller the lures are to the fish, meaning that they can engulf them deeper and thus more likely to receive gill damage and yes even die from a fight.

| That's right, bmazzo8. This fish is NOT from Turtle-Flambeau! That has been posted once already, but got deleted. People should do thier homework a little better before posting things on a public website.

| The photo posted on this thread shows how large the girth can appear on a 43.5 lb. fish if held in a horizontal position. Does this fish appear to be about 30 lbs. lighter than the McNair fish or is the McNair fish closer to 43.5 lbs. than it is to 73.5 lbs.?
If the length and weight of this fish hadn't been reported, could this fish have passed as a possible world record? |

I respect your opinion but it's pretty easy to say the fish doesn't appear to be record class when you already know the numbers.
Check out the photo of this fish being held vertically over on MH and compare it to the photo of the same fish being held horizontally on this thread.
I contend that if McNair's fish was being held vertically very few would have believed it had a 33" girth or that it weighed anywhere near 70 lbs. In my opinion, McNair's monster was a mid 50 lb. fish at most and if it was being held vertically I believe most people would agree.
