| So I'm looking at this rod by musky innovations it's there predator series 8' lure weight 3-15oz. I want to get this rod for cowgirls and dawgs but was wondering how well it would work for the cowgirls. Wondering if anyone has used it. |

Location: Apparently where the Muskie aren't | If your worried about about the cowgirls being to light to throw on the rod, I wouldn't worry about it. I had the same worry when I got my last rod. Turns out that my rod that is also rated down to 3oz actually throws cowgirls and baby cowgirls amazingly well. With a little practice I am even able to throw lures down to a 1/2oz pretty good. | I had one for a while. I think it was 8'6" XH. What I noticed is while I could throw bucktails with it, my elbow and wrist took a beating doing it. Not the ideal rod for tails in my opinion. |

Location: Apparently where the Muskie aren't | I haven't used one before but they do interest me for a dedicated rubber rod. It's seems like a really good rod for $100. I can't justify spending big bucks on a rod I may only break out 5-6 times in a season. And a light rod doesn't make a huge difference with a large reel and a pound of rubber hanging off it. In my opinion a good rubber rod is tuff and affordable. It's got to be able to handle big baits and not wear down from throwing them all day. And you ask if it's a "good rod", well thats relevant to how much you are willing to pay. For a $100 rod, yes it is a good rod. IMO if it is going to be a all around rod I would break out a little more and get a st.croix (mojo muskie or premier) or a tooth tamer. But if you have other rods that you fish with and want a dedicated rubber rod (assuming you don't throw large rubber every time out) I would go with the predator. Hope this helps. |

| It's gonna be my all around rod. I'd be paring it with a Daiwa lexa 400 pwrp. It interests me because the lure rating is 3-15oz and it would work for lot of differently lure types |

Location: Apparently where the Muskie aren't | You also need to realize that when a rod (or anything for that matter) has broadened functions it tends to lack in certain areas. What's the largest size lure you will regularly throw? If your new to muskie fishing it is easy to get caught up in the "giant lure" craze. For your first rod focus on getting good performance with lures in the 1 to 5 oz range (what most muskie guys throw on a regular basis. Then maybe next year or later this year invest in a dedicated rubber/large lure rod that can throw lures up to pounders. IMO in the long run you will be happier with a higher end rod that throws your more common size lures. We all want the capability to throw 2 pounders on the same rod as baby cowgirls but that's not realistic. |

Location: Apparently where the Muskie aren't | IMO the best rod for your situation would be a 8' or 8'6" heavy st.croix (premier or mojo musky) or tooth tamer. They are rated for lures 3-8 oz. one of my rods is the st.croix primer heavy and I am able to throw everything from baby cowgirls to magnum dawgs with ease. |

Another option is the TI, again, a great product backed up by good folks.
Both are companies who support this publication and value this community, support many veteran groups and charities, and back up their product with solid warranties. |

Location: Detroit River | If you are going to be mainly throwing cowgirls with it then I'd go with a longer rod because it will take the stress off your back and arms. As a back up rod it might be ok but a $100 musky rod that's going to be your main rod I would shy away from. |

Location: Madison, WI | Musky innovations made great rods in the "select" and "evolution" series. I would take either of those over a mojo musky or premier st croix. The "predator" series MI rods I'm not real impressed with. Now I think you will be happy with a MI, TI, or tooth tamer. All three are nice and can be had in the $100-$170 price range |

Location: mercer wi | I had a evolution 9' I think mag heavy 2-10. Was an awesome rod. I threw Bucher 700 bucktails up to mag dawgs. I'd spend the extra $30 to at least get a evolution series. Better warranty better reel seat and better cork. If you call Rick at reactionn strike, he might even give you a deal. Never know.

For under $200 ( at least that was the price I paid awhile ago) , it's all the muscle you need. And in my unprofessional opinion, it is not over-kill to throw regular size dawgs either. |
