| Mark and Dave Lutz of TNT, makers of the Triklops buzzbait, Triglide bucktails, and new owners of the Undertaker glide baits. i really really liked the blades on the Triglide bucktails: easy spinning either burned or at super slow-mo. | Fred (fredj) and Eric Johnson (ejohnson) from the First WI chapter of Muskies Inc. along with Bob Benson they had a lot of interesting things to say about the whole Leech Lake strain controversy and i spent about an hour talking to them. as Eric said to me, "you and i have argued about a few things on MuskieFirst in the last year". guess what? they're real people. it's soooo much better to be able to discuss a topic like that in person with someone than by typing things at each other online. i was very impressed by their passion and fair-mindedness. | Eric Larsen and Todd Minor at the RubberHairy Tackle booth. the squirrely version of their glider was impressive in a pool demo put on by Todd, and Eric was a wealth of info about the Green Bay/Fox/Winnebago system. | Doug Kloet of Musky Magic. the Slippery Slider looked sweet in the pool, rubber tail didn't deaden the action. apparently i was the first person to buy one of his baits at the show (a mini Instigator)...i still think i should have won some kind of prize for that... | Blair Harrington with his No Box Muskie Lures. these baits had amazing paintjobs, true works of art. he reports being able to troll his largest version (almost 24") up to 8mph, and up to as fast as 12mph for his smaller lures before they start taking line out. big trolling bait fans take notice! | Todd holding up a couple of everyone's favorite Phantom Lures. when he picks them up the Van Halen version, i swear i could hear "Eruption" playing in the background! besides the rubber-tailed Phantoms, he's got some deep-running gliders that are intriquing. if you look on the left side of the picture you can steal a glimpse of a prototype crankbait as well... | Rob and Lori at the Muskynightmare booth. i picked up a bunch of Rob's baits this winter, and it was great to have him demo them for me in the pool. i really like the slashing action of his topwater walk-the-dog, and heard many positive comments about his crank/twitchbaits. | Tom Riedel of Musky Madness Baits. it was tough getting him to be in the picture...trust me when i say that he does smile when you talk to him! nice selection of bucktails and spinnerbaits, a cranking surface lure with an "old school" leather tail, and a great looking globe (lower right of pic) made on 0.92 wire with a square insert to really clank as it spins. | Roger Watters of H2O Tackle. his lineup includes the Nitro, Ripper, XGlide, Recon and Da Ratt. Roger made a young girl very happy with a sweet trade: she showed him a picture of her first muskie and he gave her a hat and lure. this is the kind of guy it's easy to support. ask him to demo his jointed twitch/glidebait... | some of you may know that i had a special interest in this display... new Tuffy Esox Magnum and 1760 Deep-V Osprey with dual console and full walk-thru windshield are both on display. Zach Boudreau is rumored to be willing to show off video of a recent water-test of the new 1890 running over 60mph in front of a 200hp Optimax...very cool footage! special thanks go out to "Games People Play" promotions for hooking me up with some Tuffy gear to bide me over while i wait on my rig. My in-laws Gene and Candy, Shane West (swest), Krishna Swamy (K-bob), Rich, Doug from Bitten Tackle (oh yeah, I'm ordering more Warlocks soon), Eric, ToddM, Rudedog, Zach, Lambeau, Al (esoxmaniac) and his lovely bride, X-man, Jazzy, and all the others that their names escape me at the moment, as well as the best woman in the world (hell, Lori is the only woman who will put up with me, and she fishes muskys and makes my life complete). Posts: 2753 Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Although we didn't have a booth there this year, I did manage to make it to the show on Sat. Nice to chat with all the great folks. Special thanks to Terry Kinney & all of the God's Country Chapter of Muskie Inc. for taking the time & effort to bring this event to the area. Even my wife (Doreen) enjoyed the event, she spent most of the time upstairs talking with folks and listening to the speakers. I spent most of my time downstairs talking to folks & drooling over lures. Of course Jazzy & X-man were all over the place. They had fun, they each got 3 new lures. I turned them loose with the camera. Here's a couple of their photos' (you can tell by the camera perspective). The first photo is our loot from the show. From left to right-> X-Man's - orange & black "Nessa" from Muskynightmare - (X-man's a Bear's fan- so don't get him started on the Packers) Sponge Bob- Greg Nimmer had them. Gold & Green Maribou Spinner from Brite Z's Tackle (show grag bag for all the kid's) he said got the green so he could see the muskies bite the Packers). Jazzy's- Gold & Purple Maribou Spinner from Brite Z's Tackle (show grag bag for all the kid's) She said got the purple because she's a Viking's fan. black & white "Nessa" from Muskynightmare (Rob let her pick out any lure in honor of her getting her first muskie in 2005- Thanks Rob, I know it was very special moment for her when you told her that you were proud of her catching her 1st) purple & yellow "Lollitta" a.k.a. "Minnesota Sex Crime" from Muskynightmare ( Rob named it for the infamous Vikings hooker incident) Naturally it mysteriously wound up in Jazzy's bag of goodies cause she loves the Viking colors. I'll probably have to beg to get to throw it! My loot- I'm a little light on topwater baits in my tackle collection (lot's of Zalts, Zam's & Alien's) orange & black "Stillwater" from Ty Sennett- A very sweet sounding lure in the pool, lot's of noise. With hands on tuning instructions from Ty. red & black "Creeptonite" from Ty Sennett - Another sweet sounding bait-plop, gurgle, plop, gurgle, plop- FISH ON! The vee'd back end seems to give it a wider wooble than traditional creepers, and the dual rear hooks should really up the hookup percentage. Another unique lure design contribution to the industry from Ty. natural sucker jointed topwater w/ rubber tail fin (yet to be named) from Musky Madness Baits (Tom Riedel). Looks extremely enticing in the water, i.e., great noise & wooble, i.e., exactly like a sucker swimming with the tail fin partially visable. "Nemo" glider from Timberwolf Tackle (Shane West) - I just couldn't resist! Very pretty bait, with a beautiful finish.. "Nitro" glider from H2O Tackle (Roger Watters). Another beautifully crafted bait. Can't wait to get it wet. Roger has some incredible color's and superb craftsmanship in his lures. Roger's also a walking encyclopedia about wood & paint.
