(Sorry for the MultiPost Approach here, but I can't figure out how to embed pictures, so I just have to attach them to the end of a post)

I thought I would post a few pictures of the replica I received of the musky I caught in October of 2013 while fishing with Mike Hulbert as I appreciate when other guys post pictures their replicas (especially in relation to a picture of the actual fish). I ended up going with Joe Fittante out of Antigo, WI and I have to say even though I had to wait 20 monthes, it was well worth it. As you will see from these pictures, I think he nailed this replica and I couldn't be happier. First, here is the picture I gave Joe (the fish was 53.5" Long with a 23.5" Girth)...

This is pretty much your run-of-the-mill Great Lake Strain Fish with three distinct markings. First, there is a black dot on the gill plate, second, there is a black dot on the side closer to the tail, and third, there is a small scar area on the upper back (I circle these three areas in red)...

Joe picked up on those things and incorporated them into the mount. To me, it is those small things that make this replica "my fish" vs. just some replica the same size as my fish painted quickly with no attention to detail. Here is the replica...

The backdrop is a large underwater picture (it's a little hard to tell in the photo) and I suspended the actual Medusa I caught her on from the ceiling. I am more than pleased with the mount and moderately pleased with the overall display (I may have to figure out a little better way to position the lure).

To be honest, I was a little hesitant to spend the money on a replica and figured a nice picture was good enough, but I have to admit, I am really glad I pulled the trigger. The feeling of at that moment when I caught her comes back in my mind when I look at this replica. Again, well worth the money and Thanks to Joe for his incredible work.

(As a side note, Mike Hulbert is a great guide and I want to thank him for putting me on this fish of a lifetime - at least for my lifetime)

I'm glad you pulled the trigger too. Looks great. Fittante is second to none. I really like the idea of the backdrop. If you're only moderately pleased with it, maybe finish the rest of the wall with that color scheme instead of just the square, so that part doesn't pop out as much. I really like the medusa on the leader too.

Great suggestion! I just got off the phone with my wife who said somewhat of the same thing (i.e., that yellow needs to be painted a different color so as not to distract from the focal point, which is the fish). I also thought about getting a second adhesive backdrop of the same scene and seam those in on each side so that the "underwater" affect will be that whole wall (kinda like you suggested). Not sure which way to go, but as you said, something needs to be done with that yellow.

You could always frame it out but your speaker would need to be moved.

Another good suggestion! Thanks. I would have to get creative around the stairwell to the right, but a "framed" look might be awesome. Thanks again!

You could see if there are any artificial weeds you could use...maybe a fake rock bottom.

Obviously we think alike as I had Joe make me a set of rocks. However, that musky replica is right above a couch so when I had the rocks in place, you would hit your head on them while you sat down (they just stuck out too far). Therefore, the rocks went under a Chinook Salmon replica I have in my den. However, the fake weed idea is a great one as they sit close to the wall. I will have to look at a Hobby Lobby or some other craft store and see what they have.

You guys have great ideas! Thanks for sharing and keep them coming if you have any more.

I like the weed idea too, and that would be more natural for a LSC mounted fish.

What's nice is that the underwater backdrop has a submerged weedbed at the bottom of it (though it's hard to see in the picture). Having weeds "coming out" of the photo would match it perfectly. Thanks for the great ideas.
