| A while back there was a huge ruckus over these baits. Bacically, guys were ordering the baits and never getting them. What's going on? | |||
| |||
| Yes....ALL is well!! Jim Wilson has made it his priority to get every bait on order done, before he takes any more orders. As well, he is working on restoring his relationships he has with some well known "big guys!" So, feel good about buying Hughes Rivers....he made a few poor decisions. He wanted to please EVERYONE, and took orders he couldn't fill. Fell behind....thus, the RUKUS! Happy New Year to ALL!! [:bigsmile:] [:bigsmile:] [:bigsmile:] [:bigsmile:] Donnie | |||

| I got a call from Jim Wilson last week. He called to thank me for buying his lures and explained how he got in over his head, couldn't keep people working for him, and now was in the process of filling every order that he ever took and wasn't taking any more until he got caught up. What more can the guy do? Then we spent an hour on the phone talking about fishing and Hughes River lures and all sorts of stuff. It was a very enjoyable conversation and he passed on all sorts of useful info about fishing his lures. I never had to forgive him, because I only bought mine from retailers. And apparently that's the only way that they'll be available from now on. I've got a bunch of them and will buy more. I think that the Shaker is the best glide bait that I have ever seen or used. Peace on earth. Beav | |||

| I like the small hughey but I still don't think they are worth 50$ each! | |||

| divani, The lures you see for sale in the US and canada have had the price set by good old standard economics; supply and demand. The reason some are so expensive is first of all quality, and second by only a little bit availabliity. If the bait appears in Wal Mart on a mass basis, it is a safe bet the price will be moderate. If one has to order online, at a custom shop, or at a special tackle supplier, then the price goes UUUUUUP! Overselling can be a troublesome issue, especially when selling to wholesalers AND the public. If one gets behind, the attention frequently goes to the 'squeaky wheel', and wholesalers are 'squeaky' as can be. The best bet is to only sell limited production models to the public, and the standard items to the stores; with production schedules in mind, worse case scenario. | |||

| Jim Wilson made a very generous contribution to Smokey Swensons benefit | |||
| |||
| Good deal. Sounds like he's doing his best to fix everything. Never bought one, but it sounded like they were great baits. After seeing the recent posts about the baits, I had an idea that things were getting taken care of. Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll get me some!!! Tom | |||

| SANTA must be a wholesaler.... cause he dropped an 8" Shaker and 8" Enchanter in my stocking this week! [:halo:] [:bigsmile:] [8)] [:0] | |||

| I just got off the phone with Roger Park from Reeses Country Store, and he says that he has several different varieties of HR's hanging in his store right now. You can get his number from the ad that he took out on the message board right here. If you're interested. Beav | |||

| I hope he gets everyones order finally filled. I still know of two tackle store owners that he owes many, many, many baits to as of yet. They are still not happy. | |||
| |||
| it does seem like he is trying to get rid off his bad reputation. I can't blame all those people who are still waiting for their baits that they are angry. Good thing he isn't taking any new orders right now until he did all the other baits. Sworrall, I know what you mean. Thanks for the explanation. SO in order to get rich and famous I have to stop making baits as of right now! [:bigsmile:] [:bigsmile:] [:bigsmile:] [:bigsmile:] [:bigsmile:] | |||
| |||
| All is not forgiven with me. I still am waiting for my baits...some of which were ordered at the 2000 Chicago Musky Expo. I'll be willing to forgive when I get my baits, but I'll never forget. Hey Jim, if you read this give me a call and let me know what's up! Pat Wagner | |||
| |||
| Pat, I'll follow up with Jim. I sent him an e-mail last night, telling him to reference this post. When was the last time you spoke to him regarding your baits? How many were there? How much have you paid him? Please e-mail me the info.... [email protected] Sincerely, Donnie [;)] | |||
| |||
| Kris, please e-mail me, and I'll make it right for you. Thanks for making us aware. [email protected] Sincerely, Donnie [:bigsmile:] | |||

| Ha! I ordered a group of Custom Lures on the Phone with Jim Wilson himself, Last March? Guess that is not as long a wait as most I have seen post. I figured it was worth it, as the ones I do have on hand work very well and have produced? Maybe I'm still on the List of things to be done in 2003? :) No worry, as I could NOT use them until June 2003 Anyway? LOL Time will tell? Musky Tom Wehler www.muskytomsguideservice.com | |||

| Sounds like some people are being taken care of and others aren't. Not good for business. I'm surprised that some people are buying the baits at all, even if they are available. After all, there are other lure manufacturers that will be tickled to death to provide you with what you will pay for. Wondering how one can buy these baits from a store while at the same time others are getting ripped off? | |||
| |||
| Why is there such a demand for the lures? Are they really that good? | |||
| |||
| mikes: yes. But then you divide up cost versus the amount of time that you are going to use the bait. My suggestion to anyone who likes wood jerkbaits (and now top waters I suppose): buy ONE or TWO in colors you will beat to DEATH on your waters. Take them for a spin, and really get to know them....then make a decision. And by the way, buy from the Retailers....I know Reese's has some in stock, and you will NOT find a more honest business man than Roger Park at Reese's Country Store in WV (http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/reeses.htm). I recommend an 8" Shaker as the first foray into spending a ton of money on a wooden fish attractor. Slamr *and NO I do not work for Hughes River. | |||

| I've had 2 HRs...Jason Long has one, 1st6' the other. I've never spoken w/ Jim Wilson, but I have kept up w/ what has happened over the past 2 years. Why am I posting this then? Because for some odd reason I believe that everyone deserves a second chance. It hurts to get burned on deals; that I have experienced, + more often than not, no attempt was made to rectify the situation, + I was STUCK. Did I get whizzed? You daggone right! BUT- as time went on, I was the one who suffered from staying ticked off, not the individual. Nothing wrong w/ feeling like that, but it can become a problem if not placed under control! From all accounts, it appears that for once an individual is trying to do the right thing; granted he got in over his head + evidently ticked off a lot of peeps, and rightly so...but, it also seems like he is doing his level best to do the right thing, and THAT is a rare thing in this day and time. I imagine he started freaking out w/ all everything going on and froze up; no doubt we all have at one time or another. I'm not saying to just forget and say it's only $$$, but attempt to see that the guy is trying and to give him time to settle accounts. Just something to think about; everything comes out in the wash... [::)] | |||
| |||
| Yes....all is well with Jim, and all of your baits are getting close to being done. He assured me they'd be shipped before the show. Donnie [;)] | |||
| |||
| I'll echo what Sworrall had to say. Anybody that is so ticked off at Jim for not filling their orders and doesn't want their baits when they show up, e-mail me [email protected] and I'll buy them from you and pay the shipping. Beaver | |||

| You guys do what you want. I grew up around, and have been part of many "handshake" transactions over the years. I would never do any kind of business with a guy like this, regardless of what he or others claimed he was trying to do now. When you take someone's money and do not come through with your end of the bargain, it is not a "mistake". If someone was really trying to make things right, I would expect him to not only send the guy his money back, but also his baits, free of charge. And I still would not do business with him. | |||
